In whatever society we live in, we see that there are many types of works and mainly, the responsibility of doing these works is given to a representative of the society and that representative takes the responsibility of these works. People elect that representative through elections and that representative wins, people trust him the most and the one whom people like the most. Now if we see in real life, take any committee, the people there keep complaining about some work or the other, someone says that the roads here are not good and someone says that the cleanliness around is not good and someone says that there is a lot of noise from around and many such complaints remain in the minds of the people and those people also speak against it. Now as it is the responsibility of a representative to resolve the complaints of the public, but many times due to some reason that representative is unable to resolve these complaints, then in such a situation many volunteers and social workers from the society itself come forward and prove to be very helpful in resolving those problems.

These volunteers and social workers are those people who are interested in bringing about change and improving things. Although there are many such people but only a few percent of them become social workers and volunteers. Everyday there is some or the other thing that happens in the society and how much work can a public representative do and many times it happens that the representative is busy in some other work and does not get time for those works. Here the volunteers and social workers have a huge contribution who complete such work for the society.
Our house is adjacent to a common path. A thin drain runs from the side of this path which carries the waste water from the nearby houses to the drainage chamber of the road. Although this drain was built about 8-9 years ago, but there is a complaint that this drain is open and many times dry leaves of nearby trees and plants get deposited in it and due to which many times the drain gets blocked and then all the dirty water spreads towards the road and the general public faces difficulty in walking and there is also a foul smell. This thing must have happened about 2 months ago and at that time the drain was filled with garbage and there was a problem in removing the water and it was spreading on the road. When we called the Municipal Corporation, they said that nowadays the workers are busy working somewhere else, so it will take some time to do this work. People walking there daily were facing a lot of trouble because the water level was increasing and people walking there were getting mud on their feet and there was a very bad smell. When I came home from office on Friday evening, I saw that the water was spread and there was a foul smell. People were having trouble walking but since it was near our house, we had to face the smell too. I thought that now I will have to find a solution to this because if we keep relying on the Municipal Corporation, it will take a lot of time and we don't know what will happen to us due to the smell.
The next day was Saturday and there was a holiday in the office, so I wore shoes and gloves in the morning and first inspected the road to see where water was collecting and where the most garbage was collecting. I started looking from the starting point of the drain and found a lot of garbage accumulated. I first collected the garbage to the side with a shovel and then there was an empty space below the road, I collected all the garbage there. In this way, I kept moving the garbage to the side from the beginning to the end point and the drain kept getting cleaned. This work took me about 6 hours and finally it was completely cleaned. Then I poured a few buckets of water from the starting point of the drain so that the remaining garbage would also be cleaned and I cleaned the drain further with the help of a broom so that the garbage could not accumulate in it for a long time.
After that, I swept the dirty water spread on the road in one direction with the help of a broom and poured water over it so that the accumulated dirt on the road could also be cleaned and then after a while I sprayed phenol on all the places where the dirty water was spreading. By evening, the path had become quite clean and there was no foul smell either.
By doing this work, I learnt that there are many such works in the society which you have to do yourself because if you leave those works to someone then those works will get delayed and you will only suffer the loss. Suppose if I had not done this work then what would have happened was that the road would have been filled with water and this would have caused problems to the people who walk on that road daily and it is possible that an accident may also happen because water is very slippery. The smell would have increased so much that we would not have been able to stay there and then it would have been difficult to clean so much water, so sometimes you have to take the responsibility of someone else also because in this you have to look after your own interests.

It needs courage to tolerate that smell and filthy dirt and humanity to do thing that is not only yours duty. Public becomes ruthless about everything that is not private and that is why they do not care about cleanliness as well.
