Where There Is Life

in Hive Learnerslast month (edited)

Lifestyle in the rural area is something I can attest to, as I have lived in the rural area before moving to the urban area with my husband.

Timon Cornelissen

Before I start with, a rural area is an area that has less population, less social amenities, scattered settlements, and the like.

The good thing about rural areas is the fact that those who have a passion for nature scenes can enjoy them to the fullest as you have to see so many natural sceneries like flowers, mountains, rocks, massive trees, and the like.

Urban areas are the opposite of rural areas. This is a place that we can call a city and where development is taking place. They have good social amenities and good structures, unlike the rural areas.

I had my secondary and primary school right in the village, and I have known the difference between life in the village and life in the city. Most people, after staying in the village for a few years, would run to the city just to become equipped financially. Everyone believed that life in the city was better than in the village, including myself, but after staying in the city for several years, I still see some people who shouldn't be in the city but instead are fit to be in the village. Their nature and looks do not fit the city life. They left the village for greener pastures in the city, forgetting that they would and could never fit into the city lifestyle.
I can bet you that those I left behind in the village are rich just because they have their respective handiwork as well as farming. Farming is another thing that gets the rural areas going on point. The dwellers are not lazy, except for those who were born lazy.

Before I left the village for the city, I always followed my parents to the farm, although sporadically I do lie that I was sick just to escape going to the farm. But after some years of being with my parents, I found farming interesting. I had three cassava farms I left behind before moving to the city. Those farmlands were handed to my mum, who took care of them, and indeed, after harvesting the cassava, she sent me some cassava flakes (garri).

There are so many good things about life in the village, which I know so many people can testify to, except for those who were born with a silver spoon.
In the village, you can eat to your satisfaction without thinking about anything as those items were from an individual's farms. If you are in the village, you don't need to buy most of these things we buy frequently here in the city. Up to this moment, I still don't buy gari (cassava flakes), as my mother-in-law does send it to us.

Another good thing we have to observe and which I have experienced is the way they dish their food. The village food is always tasty and so delicious when compared to food in the city. We call their food natural food, as they always cook it with love. They always share love among themselves, except now that they have changed a lot.

I love going to the village most of the time, as well as my husband, just to enjoy village dishes. Anytime I travel home, I must make sure to feel the natural scenery and to feed my eyes with the good things in the surroundings.
When we elaborate on the disadvantages as well as the advantages, the rural areas lack basic social amenities like good schools, good roads, and the like. Although they may have schools, the way the teachers teach is quite different from the way they teach in the cities. Teachers in the villages are called quack teachers as they are not rushed up enough to balance up with those in the cities.

The nearest to a good market is another disadvantage of life in the village. They have to travel as far as a tangible number of kilometers before they can be able to sell their farm products. Most traders do come to them and buy their farm products at a cheaper rate, just because of the lack of a good market. This is why farm products are sold at a higher price in the cities.

Things are on the high side in the cities when compared to the village. Those living in the village do enjoy cheap articles, most especially rents. One cannot afford to pay rent in the cities but can afford to pay while in the village.

Even with those words being said about the village, I cannot live in the village. I prefer living in the city as life is both good and bad and if you grab it well, you will enjoy the good side of it. Making it in the city is easy if you have a good eye for nice market areas. As for me, I trade, and I know what I'm getting from trading. I bet you, living in the village cannot give me what I'm getting in the city, even though everything in the city is just too expensive.

However, recently, city life tends to equate with village life in terms of the purchase of goods and services. A basket of gari (cassava flakes) in the village is higher in cost than in the city. I don't understand why that is happening. I kept asking myself, “Are those items not from the village?”

Palm oil prices in the city are almost equal to that of the city. Maybe things are changing, I don't know how to place it, anyway.

So, if I had the opportunity, I would still prefer living in the city but not in the village. There is a lot of enjoyment in the city and also hope of making it great is present in the city more than in the village. The way the village people think is somehow timid and shabby but in the city, what you see would make you have a higher thinking of making it great in life.

There is life in the city…..

The most beneficial thing about living in villages is that there we don't get pollution and everywhere we see trees which are very beneficial for the health of every human being.
