My Rant Of The Latest Releases

Good evening everyone and hello. Today was an important day in the consumer tech world. Well not that much significant but just a small bit. Today the embargo was lifted on the RTX 5070 TI. And the new and latest iPhone was launched. And I have my rent for both of these. So I guess you'll have to bear with me. Even though I wasn't planning on buying the GPU, I was definitely planning on buying that particular iPhone. Directly two different scenarios going on with these two products. But I don't think either is very customer friendly. But then again, who am I to judge?

So if we first start with the GPU, and first of all, we need to talk about Nvidia being complacent. Previously in prior generations, Nvidia used to offer very good gains on their generational refreshes. For example, the RTX 3070 was faster than the RTX 2080 TI. But that is not the case anymore. The latest 5070 TI isn't faster than the RTX 4080. And it barely scrapes past the RTX 4070 TI. So you wait 2 years just to make a graphics card that is only better than its predecessor and not any more? And then on top of that you price it at similar territory only then it to be scalped and being sold at a much higher MSRP, high enough so that people can't simply buy it. The people who were waiting for quite a few months to wait out till the launch event and then maybe the prices will go down on the older cars and then they'll get one or they'll just get the newer card with the better performance at the same price, All of them are now screwed. Now there are no gpus in the stores, and even if they are, they're priced ridiculously high. And due to the high scalping price, the older cards aren't getting any cheaper.

And about the iPhone, that is a more personal thing. I always wanted to take a taste of what iOS is and why people all around the world are so fond of it. So I thought I should give it a try. And I wanted to. I could always have bought one used but in my country the used market is very shady. So the only peace of mind option was to go for a new one. But the new ones are expensive. So when this new cheap model was rumored I thought maybe this is my chance. But then Apple goes ahead and slaps a $600 price tag on it. And with it goes all my possibilities of getting into the iOS ecosystem. Because $600 is a lot of money from where I come from.

So I guess maybe for another few years I won't be getting an iPhone. And as it is about the GPU prices, if this goes on, maybe we're in for another GPU shortage crisis.
