As an entrepreneur I enjoy buying and selling alot. You know what that will mean right? I will always be involved with trading from one place to another.
We have sincere traders and we have some of them who are not sincere at all. All they want is to get your money and move on. They don't even care if you are hurt in anywhere. As long as they have made their money, that is all that matters.
For the purpose of this week 150 edition1 of the #hive learners community contest, I will like to share this particular encounter that I have with someone that so much changed me to a better person. Some people don't know that one bad or good character from us can actually change an individual to good or bad person. I know of some people that Changed because of the encounter they had with someone that left a mark on them. Sometimes is not easy to forget such events.
There was this day that I went to someone's shop to buy clothes and I did not notice on time that the owner of the shop speaks the same language with me. But immediately I noticed, trust me, I switched to my language so that he will know that this one is his sister. Hahaha 😂 I got the shock of my life. As soon as I started speaking my language, the man in question turned his face to another place pretending not to understand what I was saying. I stood there speechless. I just heard this guy when he was on the phone talking to someone and speaking my language. What happened? How comes he can't understand me again? Okay. I said to myself, just let him be for now.
I bought everything that I came to buy and left, I did not even show him that I was angry because of his actions. I just left.
Few weeks later when I came back to the shop, but this type to make enquiry and something and not to buy anything from them. I started speaking my language again for him and this time he responded. I was shocked to hear him respond. After everything I decided to confront him and tell him that I am not happy with the situation of things. I wasn't happy with him for pretended not to understand my language. When he realized what I was saying, he started pleading that I should forgive him. He actually thought that I was going to ask him to sell it cheaper for me because we speak the same language. He was wrong because I was just too excited that I have seen someone who can understand my language. I just wanted to discuss with him with my language. But he spoiled everything.
Next was the very one person who I never knew from Adam who made me very happy and I can't forget that scenario. I traveled Jos, the capital of plateau state to buy goods. This one happened more than twenty years back when my husband was selling men's clothes. Most times when he will not be around he will ask.e to go to Jos and buy his goods for him because he had already taken me there to show me where he buys them. On reaching there I started buying goods and when I came this this show that belongs to a Muslim I bought lots of goods from him because he has them plenty. It got to a point where I discovered that the money that was left with me can not pay for all the goods that I bought. I went to the man and told him that I need to reduce some of the clothes because I don't have enough money to pay for all. He just said " madam, don't worry when you come next time you can pay me" what! In this country? This man don't know me from anywhere. He don't even know if I will bring his money back or not. He just allowed me go with the goods. That kind gesture could not allow me sleep. I had to take his money back the next time I went to that same market and appreciated him for helping me. If it were my tribal man, he won't let me move out with that clothes without completing the money.
LESSONS LEARNT
In life I have come to realize that most of the people that will help you does not necessarily be from among your people. You can just meet any random person and he can decide to help you.
True story, this has happened to me, in my case the trader didn't want any familiarity with people who speak the same language because he felt I would start buying on credit. On the other hand, I don't blame them, other customers have taught them a great lesson and they have had bad experiences with them. the good people mustn't know you to help you. I pray to always find them. Thanks for sharing.
