The Effect of Stigma: A disease that darkens society

in Hive Learners22 days ago

Hello my all Hiveian friend!

A very warm welcome to today's blog!

To be honest, although we are not aware of many things, stigma is not new to anyone. Stigma is a negative attitude that can affect individuals, society and beliefs. Of course, the impact of stigma is negative, there is no doubt about it. I am really very lucky that no such incident has happened to me. But many people around me have experienced stigma. Today I want to share one such incident with you.

An incident from my secondary school days. I had an sister, whose family agreed to marry. After three to four years of marriage, everything was fine. Her family was also doing very well. But suddenly one day I heard that my sister was having a lot of trouble with her husband about some issue. That's why she returned home to her father's house. Then after a few days, I was even more shocked to hear the news of their divorce. After this incident, many people in our village used to say a lot of bad things about her. At one time, the family members got upset and insulted her through various irrelevant conversations. After this incident, she was mentally traumatized. At one point, she could not bear the mental torture and started behaving abnormally. Then the family members realized their mistake and stood by her.

Stigma can make people feel fear, depression, anxiety and self-esteem. Due to self-deprecation, a person loses the ability to believe in themselves. Due to which they are afraid to think of new creative ideas. Also, stigma instills a negative attitude towards any person in the people around them. As a result, discrimination or rejection occurs among them. It also creates a big obstacle in terms of social myths. As a result, the person who has been subjected to stigma cannot easily erase this stain and feels responsible for it. This affects not only the individual but also the family. As a result, the family members are afraid of being ashamed or humiliated. As a result, tension starts in relationships with other family members. It can cause many obstacles in the economic field through reduced employment and income.

The word 'stigma' is definitely like a curse for girls. Because the small mistakes made by girls are seen as big by people in our society. In our society, if both men and women make the same mistake, then women's mistakes are more noticeable. There are girls from many middle-class families, whose every step has to be taken with great thought. There, a small mistake like stigma interferes with their freedom. Due to stigma, many girls' bright futures are pushed towards darkness.

Stigma is like a social disease to me. I think the importance of self-awareness is immense in dealing with any social problem. Also, one should not have a negative attitude towards anyone, and should spread the right and positive attitude. Create a safe and supportive environment for a person who has been subjected to stigma so that he can express his experience and build the support capacity to change it. Along with this, one should create a friendly environment, be by the side of a person who has been subjected to stigma and protest. Finally, one should eliminate inferiority complex, fear, shame, and disappointment towards oneself. You have to shake off your bad times and turn them into mental strength. You also have to be aware of revealing your weaknesses. The most important thing is to know yourself, build self-confidence and not give importance to negative criticism from others.
