The one who betrayed his cousin.

Anyone can betrayed you but the most hurtful one is when it comes from a family.
The story right here is about a brother who betrayed the trust his cousin brother had for him.

On a sunny afternoon on parade field, full of prospective corp members standing under the sun in National Youth Service Corps orientation camp.
Bayo kept lamenting about how hot the weather is “I wonder how Akin cope in a state like this, it is just too hot here in the northern part.”
While lamenting, he sighted a beautiful lady and his gaze blazed up while his heart hopped a beat with her twinkly look.

Immediately, he thought to himself that he has found the special one and without delay, he walked up to her. Little did Bayo know that this lady will cripple his relationship with his cousin, Akin.

Hey beautiful! What’s your name? She replied “my name is Funmi”… Then Bayo followed up with the sweet talk a guy will do to win a girl heart.

Two days after they were both in love and moved around like snail and its shell.
Their days in the orientation camp as new lovers started ticking till it finally turn weeks and the day all corps member will all be given their posting letter arrived.
Luckily, they were both posted to same local government area to serve, something all corps members that found love in camp do wish for.

Few months out of camp, they were already having problems. Bayo couldn't keep up with the relationship anymore because Funmi happened to be a liar and a pretender. Bayo tried to fix things up but it will always be hard to be in a relationship with someone who lies and pretend.

Like pieces fall apart, their love kept fading and abate size in Bayo’s heart. Bayo couldn’t help but put an end to the relationship as Funmi was not willing to change.

After the breakup, Bayo remained friends with Funmi but she was the opposite.
Smile at his face but backbite about Bayo with his closest cousin, Akin, in town.

This continued between Funmi and Akin until the day he carelessly left his phone unlocked with Bayo. Some messages from Funmi pop on the screen which made him curious to know what led to that kind of conversation between them.

While reading their chats, tears flowed down Bayo’s cheeks and he felt a dreadful ache as if something was being turned inside of him.

A burning feeling raged through him as he went inside to deal with Akin. He began to drill Akin with questions, wanting to know every details, the reasons behind Akin’s actions.

You’re my brother, my family! My closest cousin! How could you backbite about me with my ex?! You were supposed to watch my back but instead you stabbed me! What will you gain from this?! You betrayed me! Bayo screamed.

Tears welling up his eyes, hoping Akin could find a better way to explain himself. Hoping everything he just read wasn't real. He could only hope as he never expected to be betrayed by someone he called brother.

Akin begged him but forgiveness was the hardest thing to get out of Bayo at that moment. Being betrayed by the one you called family is always hard to swallow.

Weeks after weeks, Bayo finally decided to forgive Akin but the trust was not restored back till he left the city after the completion of his one year National Youth Service Corps.

I agree with you, that the most painful betrayal, comes from our own family :(

In their wildest dreams, no one ever expects to be betrayed by a family member. So it always hurts worse when it happens which is just too bad. This is a beautiful but tragic story, I am glad I read it.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

If you have been betrayed, it will be hard to trust again
