So many things happened to me in the year 2024, it had to be one of the toughest ones I’ve experienced. From having to go through the rigors of being a final year student, or facing off with a landlord that was almost insistent on rendering all his tenants homeless by serving us all quit notices even before the rent we paid expired. Then, there were my countless brushes with the police who kept patrolling the Owerri Metropolis.

A lot of things happened, and thankfully, not all of them were bad. I also got to graduate from a higher institution, against all odds. I also learned some basic investment skills that have been helping me out these past few months. I met some really great people this year and so far I’ve gotten involved in a number of things that have been really helpful for me.

So many things happened to me this year, and if I’m gonna single one out, it definitely has to be getting to graduate. My final year was the toughest year for me since I got admitted into my school, not just because of the increased finances, but also because of the situation of things and how it affected every other thing I was involved in.

2024 started with a bang, but not the good kind. We saw the way things were just going on the increase at an unprecedented rate. The cost of living went so high and I was helpless against it. This caused the price of education to go up as well. Books went up, the price of running practicals and projects went up, and transport fares around the school went up. Every conceivable thing that could go up, did.

And for this, I had to work harder and for longer. I had to make more money if I was going to remain a student and finish the journey that I started. Education was costing me a lot, and I had to give way more than I thought I would. Despite all this, despite having to work extra hard to make money, I still had to read my books and always be prepared for whatever sudden tests and quizzes the lecturers would decide to send our way. I had to be on the ground to submit assignments and also study hard for the inevitable exams.

As a result, I barely had time for myself. I was always busy, doing one thing or the other. I basically burnt myself out during my final year. Sadly, it only got worse in the final months when I started my final year project. This was more expensive and required me to work even more because working on my project didn’t mean I wouldn’t be going to classes or answering to my clients.

At one point, all I could think of was just about how to round up and finish my schooling. My graduation was like the light at the end of a dark tunnel and it was all I could see for a long time. Exams came around and I killed it. Then the project defense also came around and I killed it. I did my signout and just like that, I’m done being shackled to the school. I’m finally free and I’ve never been happier.

The only thing linking me to the school now is my clearance which I’ve started processing and I’d be done with by the end of January 2025. Once that is achieved, I’m done.

So yeah, it was really a major thing that happened to me and it’s something that I’d forever be grateful for. Against all odds, I managed to sail through schooling and now I’m done. Free to live my life and face my hustle. This way, I’m stepping into the New Year with renewed hope and vigor, there is so much yet for us to achieve. And I’m ready to go after all that. It’s going to be an epic ride.

Yes, I think the final semester in a faculty is indeed a very difficult time for us to go through, sometimes we don't have time at all for ourselves because there is always something we do, but you managed to pass it and you are a scholar, hurdle after hurdle you managed to pass, congratulations on your achievements in 2024.

In the final year, there are just so many things to do, things that if not down right could cause major problems. But it's all in the past now.
