This time last week, I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. Shortly after working on my laptop, it simply packed up and went off, unable to come back on anymore. It was a major issue because no matter how much I tried to get it to come back on, it stubbornly remained on. I talked all about it in this post. However, that wasn’t where it all ended.
I thought that the only problem I had to face was with the display, well it turned out that the engineer was wrong. After fixing what he thought to be the problem, the laptop still refused to come on. This time around, the power lights were not even coming on. Things had gotten worse to an extent. This prompted him to open up the laptop and also brought him to his next conclusion.
My motherboard was ruined, and at that point, no matter the amount of fixing that I did, it wasn’t going to work out anymore. So, I had to change the motherboard. However, that was going to cost me N60k. Can you imagine that? It was a major upgrade from the N15k that I was slated to pay. I didn’t like this at all and I immediately told the engineer what I thought.
I didn’t like it at all, if the motherboard was ruined, it meant that my laptop was as good as gone and there would be no getting it back. Even if I do end up changing it and they fix the laptop, it would be like buying a new laptop because it would be clean and all of my documents and files will be gone. So, spending such an amount for such a thing sucked a whole lot and I decided just to let it al go. For every day that my laptop was not functioning, I was missing out on a whole lot of work which meant I was missing out on a whole lot of money.
I needed to get a new laptop, and I needed it as soon as possible. So, this impromptu buying wasn’t something I was looking forward to at all. I had to hustle around and look for a way to raise the money. I even had to take a few loans just to make sure that the money was enough. Those first few days were the toughest for me because I desperately needed the new laptop but so far, nothing I could do seemed to do the trick for me. I didn’t like that one bit.
Eventually though, I made it work. I was able to raise the money, and I returned to town to get myself a new laptop. With the rate at which I work, I know that within a short while, I’ll be able to pay it all off. So, with the money snug in my account, I went to a shop I know, looked around for the perfect baby and bought it. It was an HP laptop to be precise. I then did the transfer, ready to take my latest acquisition home.
Unfortunately, the money got stuck. That was the very day that my bank decided to develop network issues, like are you kidding me? I was debited but the seller never got the money and as such they couldn’t release the laptop to me. It was frustrating. At first, I thought it was something that would take only a few hours to get fixed, I figured I was going to wait for it.
Well, I was wrong. I was at the shop till that evening when they were almost about to lock up, but the seller had still not gotten an alert and the money had not bounces back to my account either. It was maddening. In the end, I was forced to just go home, although with a promise to return the next day. At this point, I had borrowed money from so many people just to make that laptop possible, if it didn’t work out and for some reason I lost the money, there was going to be a really big problem for me.
Well, thankfully, I didn’t get to find out what that harrowing future would be like. The money bounced back by the next morning. Once it was daylight, I got on the first bus to town (after calling the seller, of course) and I hurried over to his shop. Once there, I sent him the money and within seconds, he got the alert on his phone. And just like that, the laptop was mine.
I’ve been learning my way around it since then, trying to use it to work and making my mark on the device. Of course, it needs some getting used to, but that’s something I have a lot of time for. As I use it to work, I’ll keep getting used to it. In time, I’d have mastered it just as much as I mastered the old one. It’s all good though, I’m sure this would be just another adventure for me.
The last laptop served me for four years plus, and I’m looking forward to see how long this would serve me. So far, I’m not disappointed and I can tell that it’s a good thing. Things are already going so great. It’s time to put the baby to work.
