The New Year is finally here and at only four days old, so much has already happened. There are a lot of things that I’ve left behind in the year 2024, simply because I no longer see the need to hold on to them. When I looked inward, questioning some of the decisions I’ve made over the years, I saw that in the long run, many of them had no positive impact on me. And that was something I was looking to change.

2025 would be a year where I would take my growth seriously and be intentional about everything I look to get involved in. From my work to my mental health and even how I relate with people. If you’re not adding anything valuable to my life, then you won’t be getting a priority spot in my life. Simple as that.

One of the first things I’m letting go of is junk. I’m a sucker for holding on to things I don’t need. They could be old clothes, books, contacts, anything at all. Even things that have lost all forms of value, you’ll find me clinging to them as if they’re crypto that will suddenly gain value and as such be more relevant. However, that never happens. Instead, they only get worse and less usable for me.

So, this year, I’m letting go of things that I won’t be needing anymore. I won’t find it hard to throw out all the junk and stuff, letting go of fake friends and acquaintances who are only taking up space in my life and stopping me from making new ones. I’ll simply move on. There is so much baggage that I’m not looking to take into 2025, and before we go any further, I’ll make sure that I cut them all off.

Another thing that I used to do last year was late-night eating. It was something that started off innocently, but soon, it became a staple in my life. And at a point, it looked like if I didn’t eat late at night, then nothing else was going to work for me.

Working remotely, my time can be flexible and as a result, due to other life issues, I can end up working late at night. However, for some reason, once I eat my supper, the next thing my body always needs is sleep. No matter how much nap I had during the day, I’d start feeling sleepy after eating a meal.

It could be because of how heavy the meal is, or how much water I drink, either way, I felt that the solution to this was to do all my work and then have my supper. As a result, I found myself eating by 11 pm, 12 pm, and one time, even 2 am. I was doing this on such a regular basis that it soon began to show on my body, leading to me growing belly fat that I wanted nothing to do with in any way at all.

Anyway, I’m leaving the life of late-night eating behind. Once it’s past 7 pm, there would be no more eating for me until the next day. That way, if I have to work late into the night, I’d do it without having to bother about eating. So, this is a lifestyle that will be going on in 2024.

There are just so many things that I’m planning to change this year and get better at, and I’d be taking them all one after the other. It’s not a race and it’s definitely not a competition. I’m living my life at my own pace and as such taking it one step after the other. And as I’ve been saying since the start of the year, I’m looking forward to everything the year is going to bring my way.

It's interesting to see how mindful you are about leaving behind things that no longer serve you and embracing personal growth.

Oh yeah... I'm leaving things behind abeg. No more strength to carry extra baggage around.

I think you need to take the eating habit seriously because it will make long term effect. If you are not serious about it, you will suffer for it at the end.

Yeah... I'll be really intentional about it this year. No matter what!

Foodie like me before. Well I was in this shoe before now but deliberately I pulled myself out of it. Usually it is not easy at first but you can make it. I eat late into the night like 8 or 9 pm when the day becomes so engaging and no way around it. I also trained my kids to eat early and get to bed early too, the most we take when it's late is what and that also helps to stay healthy too.

I just like the way you have planned out to make adjustments gradually because when you want to do it at once you may be overwhelmed and end up not doing anything. I do which you the best in this year that just began and beyond

Omo... it might not be easy, but I'm sure I'd make it work. It started off due to work, I'm sure that with some reshuffling, I'd do it.

I used to hoard things, too. Frankly, I still do. It's a habit I'm trying to lose. Earlier in Decemeber, I went through all my stuff and painstakingly declitteres everything I had no use for but had been holding unto for whatever sentimental reasons. I felt lighter, but that was difficult.

So, I guess I can relate to having to have all that unnecessary baggage on you. You're doing yourself good by letting them go.

As in ehn... seeing so many things that you have no need for anymore, but still holding onto them like a lifeline. It's something that needs to stop!
