There are so many things that are wrong with our school system today. It has never been perfect, but I believe that we had it better back in the day. When I think about it, I’m forced to admit that there are a lot of things the coming generation of students will never get to enjoy, and that’s just sad.
These days, schools are no longer concerned about the wellbeing of the students anymore, they’re only concerned about the money they make. They’re concerned about the number of students that enroll and the amount they get to charge them, and all that matters is that they keep getting more and more students.
The only school system I feel still acts in the best interest of the students is the government schools. I went to one from my junior secondary up to my senior secondary and I can tell you that to date, they’re the one set that really cares about students. Maybe because in government schools, money is never the issue. Everything is covered by the government, we don’t pay school fees and they give us some textbooks. So, since the hunger for money isn’t there, the school focuses on actually impacting knowledge to the kids.
Schools these days don’t allow their students to have enough fun. There’s this private school in my area, the only time you hear the voice of the children is during assembly when they’re singing and praying. After all that, it’s zilch. You won’t even hear them during break time because the school has made having fun a crime.
I don’t really know about much but most schools these days don’t allow their kids to play football, like, how is that even possible? During my time, football was food for a lot of people, that was how many of us discovered our talents. Then, there were dancers, actors, and other form of extra-curricular activities. It’s saddening that we don’t have these practices as before, instead, students get to do debate, trivia, maths pop quizzes, and the like. How can such students be happy?
Although government schools still allow their students to play football, I don’t think such students can be stopped from playing. Hehe… My main focus though is on private schools and how they box in their students just because they want to maintain a particular reputation.
And then, one thing that students enjoy these days is the ease at which so many things can be done. Thanks to the internet, and with projectors and all, teaching has been made easier. Parents can keep better track of their students simply by joining the same WhatsApp forum where all announcements will be dropped.
Although, when we think about it, the internet poses problems as well, the benefits far outweigh the risks. It’s easier now for parents to keep track of their children’s academic life while they’re busy with their work and whatnot. All these were not really possible back in the day, but now it’s at the forefront and helping for a better schooling experience.
I just hope that these schools will learn and try to act more in favor of the students than for their money. But then, note that the private schools I mentioned are based on the ones I’ve observed in my neighborhood here. Private schools in your area may be different, so the problem I raised might not exist in yours. But then, since it exists somewhere, then it has to be fixed, right?
I agree, the government schools offer so many things. So many plays and extra activities. I am also a student of gov.school and this was so fun and was so diciplined.

Most private schools don't see allowing students have fun as part of education, some even see it as distraction. The last school I taught don't even have enough space for the students to enjoy their times during free hours, the proprietress stopped the students from playing football in the compound.
Back in those days, you will play till your learn something out of it🤣🤣 but now, things have changed, some students don't know even have interest in it anymore
Omo... It's just sad. And all this is very important in the children's upbringing as well. Our schools really need to do better.

They want to teach the kids to act like prince and princesses. All work no play. All seriousness and no fun.
And of course, they need to do all of these so parents will pay for their children's fees year after year and their children will even become the envy of other parents. And you know what happens next... Keeping up with the Joneses... More children will be admitted and so the money grows... Hehehehe
Yeah... that's their target. Just money. They don't care about what happens to their children, they don't care about finding their talents... all they want is more and more money. It's just saddening.
Jo doubt about private schools being all about money, it's same everywhere, now you stated it, it's true o, even the private school near me, you only hear their voice during assembly, i never took notice, not until you stated it😂😂
As in ehn... just back to back reading. That's not fair in any way at all.
I felt the same way when I thought about how schools don't participate in sports, it's challenging for kids to even know what they are good at.
I know some of my school mates who now play football in Europe even though not at top flight but many of them discovered this thing during sports activities.
Preventing students from having fun really doesn't make any sense since it doesn't make them more intelligent.
This is very correct. Many of us discovered our passion in school. But if that factor is being taken away, many will never get that opportunity, or they'll only find out later in life. Really scary.
Would you believe that there are some schools that makes sure that a child’s aggregate score is not less than 95% so that parents will think their child is brilliant?

This is really bad. How can they do something so horrible? And the parents would believe that their kids are doing fine.
Correct sir. Though not everywhere. Our government school here is very bad. The teachers are not willing to teach the students because no one supervises them. We need to upgrade that aspect too.

Ooops... sorry about that. I guess it's a different experience in Lagos. That was where I schooled. I really hope the government takes a more active interest in the educational system.

It is true that the government school offers many things but the teachers are not ready to teach the students. That is why many people move there kids to private schools the private schools is always serious the forget that the students needs the basic things.
Yeah... this is correct. I guess that both have advantages and disadvantages.
It's up to each one of us which we're more interested in.

Schools are nowadays foundations for Bussiness. They are worried about money and not worried about the future of the students. It is really painful to see the behavior of private schools. I also praise government schools although there are still many things that need improvement.
Yes... there are many things that need improvement and I hope that with time, they all get fixed. It's very important.
What kind of break time it is if student don't have freedom to play football? In my eyes it's kind of crime. And in case of internet it has advantages and disadvantages at the same time. It depends on users how they will take it.
