There was a time when I was really looking forward to being done with school life. Not just because of the stress, I know how much I complained about it, how the lecturers pushed us to the limit, and how circumstances forced us to the brink of insanity just because we were looking for good results. I did all that. And it was also because of all that that I wanted it all to end. I just wanted my time as a student to come to an end so that I could focus on other aspects of my life.

However, there were other things that were coming up about school, and the chief of them was the bills. Back when I was in school, I was always scared of going to lectures because I knew that every day I stepped foot in school was a day I was going to spend money that I didn’t want to spend. I was either paying for one textbook, for a practical, or for one other outlandish reason like this.

During that phase of my life, I was always spending money, every single day! And when you add this to the usual daily financial bills that come with the territory, I was spending a whole lot. On some days, I was spending as much as 7-10k (when you factor in food, transport, and other essentials) on a daily basis. Because of what? Like how much was I earning at the time? It was just too much!

So, I just wanted to be done! I knew that once I was done, all the billing would stop and my daily spending would reduce drastically. I would only spend on what I want and I would be able to monitor it so that I’ll be able to save up well. It seemed like a solid plan and it made a lot of sense. Which was why I was actually happy when I finally graduated. Knowing that the school billing was now behind me was really a thing of joy. I was no longer buying textbooks and paying for one thing or the other. I was free.

But was I? The thing is, now that I’m no longer a student, I’m now in the labor market and even though I know that the next logical step for me to take is the service route, which should happen later this year, I’m still looking for ways to improve myself and get better. I still have to live life. I still have to eat. I still have to be healthy. I still have to survive. So, I still have to spend money.

So, in a nutshell, my rate of spending money didn’t really reduce, I just switched one out for the other. However, it’s now a bit less frustrating because I’m paying for things that actually make me happy, not the ones that make me tired and drained of all the strength in the world. I’ve learned that it’s not possible to live in this world without spending money.

“Reducing your spending rate” is not a realistic goal, because as long as there’s money in your possession, you’re going to spend it. One way or the other. The only surefire way to reduce your rate of spending will be to reduce the amount you’re earning, and I don’t think anyone would like that. Since we’re gonna spend our money anyway, what matters the most is how we spend it. We can focus on spending more of it on investments and things that will make our lives better. Or we can simply keep spending them all on liabilities. It’s all our choice!

So, holding on to money is not the wise thing to do. Letting it go in a smart and creative way would be wiser because that is what will bring you even more money to you. Hmm… this could be financial advice! I just thought to share it with you all.

You will enter school and fiaaammm you've spent more than you budgeted for. It can be so disturbing and annoying because 90%< of the time we are spending on things that are not if personal use. Now you can spend money on things you actually decide to get.

Spending doesn't actually reduce, rather it is earning that can reduce or increase.

As in ehn... at the end of the week, if someone asks you to explain how the money went, even you won't be able to explain. Yet, you know that it's school runs. I'm just happy I'm out of that vicious cycle!

If you have money, then you must have ways to spend it. You may stop using money for a particular thing but the money you save will ended up in other things as far as I can understand.

As in ehn... one way or the other, you'll definitely spend it.
