For the past couple of weeks, the internet has been agog with Governor Soludo of Anambra State’s war on fake and devilish native doctors. This is a welcome development because as far as I’m concerned, these guys use “native doctor” as a guise to carry out their evil tendencies. They perform all sorts of rituals, endangering the lives of those around them. They’re all just serial killers.

For the governor, he’s not against traditional worshippers or anything of that sort. But when you start to engage in blood rituals, kidnapping, and killing people, then you have a problem because that’s when you’re taking it too far. And as it stands, so many people have been taken. Even pastors and deacons have been uncovered as being involved in this. A number of them are from other states, but they come to Anambra to perpetuate their evil acts.

But then, my post today is not about the war on native doctors. It’s something else that the entire thing has had me thinking about for a while now. Does money ritual really work? Do these charms work as much as they say that they do? I’m not going with the idea that if they could really make money, then they wouldn’t live in such squalor. But, do they really have the power to create money out of thin air after certain sacrifices have been made?

And then, what about those who run charms that make them invulnerable? Are they really bulletproof? If you shoot them, will they get hurt? What about when you stab them? Are these guys capable of such power? The thing is, many of us have only heard of all these things, we’ve not actually seen them in action. Maybe it’s just hearsay and they don’t have such power.

Because if they’re so powerful, why then is the government’s plans working on them? Why are they getting arrested up and down? Well, if you’re as powerful as you say you are, shouldn’t you be able to disappear at will? If you can make money appear out of thin air, avoiding getting arrested should be a piece of cake.

Note that I’m not talking down on these powers and saying that they don’t exist, I’m only wondering why they never seem to be used for good. Why can they only be used for terrible things? They don’t heal people, but they make them sick. They won’t help your business prosper genuinely, but they’d ask for human sacrifice and for you to do other clandestine things.

Okay then, since the powers can only do evil, why not take it up against those wreaking havoc on our country? There are terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, rapists… the list goes on and on, so many evil people to take their pick from. They can’t unleash the power on such people, but they can do that on innocent and unsuspecting individuals who simply want to go about their lives without any hassle. Are they scared of guns and knives? Or they just don’t have the power.

That’s why this thing would never make sense to me. If there really is juju, just as we’re seeing the bad side, we should also see the good side as well. We should be seeing them actually help people and make life better. But no, we instead have them coming online to brag about what they can do and undo.

It’s really scary what our world is turning into. I hope that other governors will take a page from Soludo’s book and do the same because this is becoming too much. Because it’s people like these who are giving a bad rep to those who genuinely want to go into traditional worship. I just hope all this will get better with time.
