Dangers of letting others have access to your phone

in Hive Learners2 years ago

Recently i visited my cloth vendor and she told me what happened to her earlier this year around that january period and i could not help but pity her...

Someone stole her phone in her shop and not long after, they withdraw all the money from her bank account and also used her account to obtain a loan, i asked if she didn't use password but she said she did and it seems they flashed the phone in order to have access...

They were able to carry out their evil through her sim card because it was in the stolen phone, she lost all her savings for the past year, she could have gone to the bank to tell them to block her account but it was on a weekend and banks do not open.....

As if that was not enough, that same week police officers came to arrest her in the shop, they accused her of threatening an influential person in the society, she was confused but the person involved showed her the threatening message received from her line but still this didn't clear her confusion because she never send any message , not until her daughter confessed that a customer came to their shop and asked her to borrow him the phone that he want to make a call and after making the call, he also texted with the phone....

That message sent by that stranger was what put her into trouble and she had to use 100 000 naira [138 dollars] to bail herself! just imagine paying for a crime you didn't commit and also have to pay a loan you never ask for! i felt so sorry for her but am glad she is already recovering...

I have always been careful about giving people my phone, i don't even like giving my phone out, it is very risky handling your phone to someone because they can do stuff that would put you in trouble or even steal your money!

Our sim is very important and we must not let just anyone have access to it because there are a lot of things they can do with it especially the sim connected to our banks and other important stuffs we do...

I make this post to create awareness that we need to be careful who we give our phones to and it is even better if we don't give it out at all and incase your phone or sim card got stolen, try to contact the bank to freeze your account immediately so you won't lose your money....

The people that stole her phone were truly professionals, because how did they know her pin to transferring money? Hmm, recently my friend also lost his phone to someone he helped on his motorcycle and the person sold the phone immediately he has over 5m that he can only access with the phone.

We all really need to be very careful and wise too. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us. Your friend is a strong lady sha 😒.

Hope they didn’t steal the 5 million? Because nowadays being in possession of your phone also means having access to your money

We don't know yet oo, we are still trying to find the phone 😏.

The fact that he didn’t raise any alarm means his money is safe, the phone is gone though, probably sold to someone else at a very cheap price if it is an untrackable phone

The money is safe but will be gone if he can't get the phone back. Yeah, the person that stole the phone already sold it out at a very cheap price, the buyer didn't even pay the money completely.

I really hope they see the phone somehow 😏.

Uhm am confused, how did you know the phone has been sold and it was sold at a cheap price to the extent you know the buyer didn’t pay completely ?

So sorry about that, I didn't add that they already caught the thief but he already sold it to someone he does not know at all, so they are still trying to find the person.

Android has a way to lock the phone or even wipe the phone remotely in case it was stolen. If she's doing online banking, she could have accessed the bank's website and changed her password...
Unfortunately, not all people knows what to do once his/her phone is stolen..

They used her SIM card, she needed to block the sim but she was not expecting such stunt from the thief….

I'm not sure how it's done in other countries but here in the Philippines, we can report a stolen phone to the service provider immediately. Assuming it's a post-paid service. They will block that number.
Or report the IMEI number so the phone itself will be blocked by all telecommunications companies. Then again, I myself, don't list down my phone's IMEI number... but I think I should do that now. hehe

Yea be prepared for things like this because we don’t know who is monitoring us …. If anything should happen to my phone today, I would take the necessary steps to get everything blocked within minutes to keep things safe…

Yup. If you don't trust Android's Find My Device app/services, the antivirus company such as Kaspersky have a free service that allows you locate, lock, and/or wipe your phone in case you lost it.

That was so scary..

Very very, we are now in the era where most of the things we do is connected to our SIM card so we really need to be careful

Good advice

Great reminder on why we shouldn't give out your phone to people (especially strangers). I guess we just want to be nice or we just want to believe that everyone is as good as us. This is not always the case!

They are making things harder for people who really needs help because good samaritans are now scared to offer help incase it backfires and affect them…

Right, I guess a few rotten apples can affect the whole basket.

This adage sums it up, experience is the best teacher, I have learned from ur write up, I pray I don't experience such, she learned the hard way

Yea we just need to be extra careful and protect our phones and sim very well… God is the ultimate protector though

Yes, like the Health practitioners will say "we care but God Heals", we can only try to put some protective measures in place, but above all God keeps us

Oh! It is so sad that your cloth vendor went through all these for a crime she didn't even commit.

I've heard so many stories of how these evil perpetrators carry out their works just by gaining access to your phone. That is why we must be very careful.

Thanks for sharing.

yea i felt pity for her and i believe she has learn to be more careful with her phones and sim, we have also learn not to give our phones to just anyone..

So bad the woman was robbed of her hard-earned money by scammers and that's why I am always careful about not giving my phone and atm card to anybody to keep for me because they are my personal stuff and should stay like that🥺.
