When people talk about government and privately owned businesses, the first thing that comes to mind is schools and hospitals.
One thing that is clear and why people prefer government services is because they are most time free or cheap compared to private ones.

I attended a public secondary school and I did not pay any school fees, and even the textbooks we used were given to us for free but it was not the same with private schools, in fact, I attended a private school when I was in junior secondary school and it was when my parents could not afford the payment anymore that I was sent to a public school.
The advantage of a public school is that it is cheap or free. Still, their services can't be compared to the private sector, some public school teachers do not care about their students, and some won't even attend class knowing that nothing will happen to their salary at the end of the month. Still, we also have teachers who take their work diligently, they come for their class and teach well. which reminds me of my physics teacher back then, even though his class was boring to me and most of the students felt sleepy because of the lecture, he never left unless his period was over.
The government is paying their workers well but the fact they are not there to monitor them is a big problem compared to a private school where the proprietor or proprietress will always listen to the complain of the parents and work diligently to give them feedback which could result to sacking any incompetent teachers.
It is the same with Hospitals, you see nurses in government hospitals are so rude and nonchalant, you could be left waiting for hours without anyone to attend to you and this is a result of many people in the queue, sometimes you wonder why they are like that, are they not getting paid or their salary is small, I think it is too much freedom that no one is there to put them to order that cause this unlike the private hospital where you get the needed attention in a short time but it also has its cons which is how expensive it is.

Sometime last year, my wife was having a health issue, it was not critical just something of concern to her and I took her to the hospital, the doctor told us to go for a scan, after we did and showed him the result, he said she needs to be on bed rest and it will cost us 70 000 Naira per day for the private ward and 60 000 Naira for the general ward, I was like bed rest on top what? can't you prescribe drugs for her, is it mandatory for her to stay at the hospital, he said yes that she needs to stay, I told him that I can't afford that amount, then he said he will allow us to pay 50 000 Naira and that is last he can accept, but who is negotiating with him in the first place, oh well I told him that I need to call family members to gather the money lol and we will be back, he said I should not let her follow me, that she should stay in the reception while I go look for the money but I said no that it might not even be today, that was how I left with my wife that day and she later went to another hospital in my former area where the doctor prescribed drug for her and she was fine!.
So I just think the private hospitals have a target they must meet daily and as a patient, if you do not use your head, they will use you, assuming as he called 70k, I started feeling big and paid, he might even extend her bed rest to like one week, just imagine paying 70k daily, but no way I am paying such fees!.
Although He would have done his job and treated her well but the money was a lot, so private businesses are expensive but they will render a good service while public ones are cheap but their attitude is nothing to write home about.
If money is not a problem, I will always choose private over public any day!.

Anything privately owned offers the best customer service especially on this side of the world, those under the government are so nonchalant.
