Social pressure is one of the big problem we have in all countries but unfortunately many people do not see it as a problem.. We have lost many of our good youth to social pressure and many of them are into bad things because of this same issue...
As human, we have different way of reacting to things, some people also have self control and can withstand peer pressure more than others... You see those people who love to impress others are the main victim of social pressure because they live their whole life to impress others and not doing what others are doing might make them feel weak or out of trend so they can be easily manipulated or persuade to join a bad trend...
Unlike before, Drug is not something that is being done openly, i could remember during my childhood that i know some bros that when never they want to smoke, they do it in a closed area, you will never even know they smoke except you are very close with them but it is a different case now...
It has gotten so worst that even teenagers now smoke openly, they don't feel bad to do it nor do they feel remorseful because they see others doing it too so now it is even a competition of who smoke pass..
There is somewhere in my city where you can see those teenage boys sitting and smoking in the evening, they usually form a long queue that it will take like 1 minutes to walk past them and i know some familiar face then, infact one of them used to be my neighbour's son, he was a gentle boy but the friends he followed initiated him into that lifestyle... His life won't have been like that if he follow good and responsible friends but it is what it is...
I can't say i am immune to social pressure but i take precautions by staying away from people who could influence me, it is person that socialize that get affected by this... Sometimes i even wonder if i am even living in this world lol, cos i stick in my room all day except when i want to buy food, that is the major reason i go out and it is just for a short moment....
So there is no one to initiate me, pressurize me to do something i am not interested in, it is when you give them chance into your life that they can pressurize you...
Even though when i was still in secondary school, some of my friends try to pressurize me into drinking but i turn it down, you know how friends do when you seem to be the odd one among them, they laugh and make fun of you but all that don't really work on me because most time i am always the clown in a group of friends so nothing you can do that can make change my mind as am used to the mockery lol....
Even though, i drink once in a while now, it is not social pressure, it is because i feel like doing it, but one thing i never do is smoke because of the damage to the organs in our body... Health is wealth....
I love myself so much that i will never do anything to harm my body or organs... Not even social pressure can change that! because when the problem start.... All those who pressurized you into doing it will be no where to be found....

It's true that social media has big pressure on people to look and act a certain way. There have been numerous studies on how the herd mentality can sway somebody's mind. But with anything once you put a name on it and you are more aware of it it has less impact influence on you.
I think the best way to curb it is to stay away from those who engage in those vice and social media contribute its own part too, because most of the things practiced by youth was what they saw on the internet...

It's actually the truth, most young people now live their lives base on what their idol or celebrity does on social media.
Peer pressure is something that has affected the society badly especially in such a place called the university, there you will see lot of things done by people just because of the group of friends they keep, some lost their lives, some are drop out and some are living with lifetime regret.
Me I like my life, growing up in the city of port Harcourt where young people can just misbehave but I choose to be different and that has helped me a lot.

Some good destinies have been wasting due to social pressure. Just like you said, if u don't find them, they won't see you to pressurize you and perhaps you fall to their way of life. I have been on this mess, all thanks to my husband who saw the green light and warned me🤦

We just have to be wise and careful too with those we associate with. Some aim to lure us into doing what we wouldn´t want to do but when the pressure is constant and getting much, without having self-control, it becomes difficult to ignore and becomes easy to yield to them. When troubles show, they are nowhere to be found.
especially when some of those things are things we actually love but restraining ourself to do, once we see someone to persuade us small like this, we go fall yakata

What if its not so much about social pressure, but more about social culture nowadays? Let me explain: in some indian american tribes, smoking was the social norm, so nobody had to really pressure into it. All your friends did it, your aunt did it, even your father did it. Today, there are some unspoken rules about soft drugs, and that is that most ppl are doing them at least once every few months... and talking about MJ, most youngs are doing it daily. If soft drugs are your cities´social culture, your sons/daughters WILL be trying them no matter how correct their manners and education are, but they don´t have to throw their life to the toilet. There is a big difference between an explorer and an addict. The addict doesn´t have goals/aspirations in life and feels angry/depressed, and that is why he stays into the bottomless pit of complacency, while the explorer just tries new things, but when he/she becomes conscious that drugs are impairing his/her health or lifestyle, gets the fuck out of them.
I believe the lack of conscience/perspective is more of a problem than giving in to peer pressure.
(Also, hard drugs are another matter entirely, as there is a much steeper slippery slope, but I believe talks about the real damage they can do to your health and life work so much better than talking about not giving in to the offering. Some ppl would accept anything if it comes from a friend without giving it much thought, and that is more about blind confidence than peer pressure.)

Totally true. If you make yourself available for peer pressure, you will be influenced. I love the fact that you stated that we are different. People have different character and that will depend on how they can get easily influence.
The some other factors to be considered when we talk about peer pressure or influence. But the main factor is you.
The world is changing. Even things considered bad those days are now seen as normal. Peer pressure is like a devil, is so rampant and most people aren’t given enough attention to it
yes the main factor is us... We can really stop all this if we know ourselves, if you can't control your urge or sure you can withstand social pressure then avoid those people who can lead you into temptation

I agree with you that only those who are socialize often see what would intimidate them, but in our world today even our rooms seems not to hide us anymore, the internet can bring the world just right to you, even if you invite it or not the best pill is self control. Some of us our inability to say no when needed and yes when required both to our selves and others is our greatest problem.
The world has really evolved, we can only but keep praying because the rate at which some vices are done openly nowadays is something else. Smoking has been legalized by the street and people no longer hide while doing it except there are police around and they tend to take precautions. In situations where the police smoke with them, they don't even give a damn about the police.
Peer pressure is a big issue in the world and it requires lots of discipline to handle it. You did a great job standing up about peer pressure, hugs...
the police aint doing the job in regards to that, because you can't arrest people if you are also doing that same thing... it is a fuck up world
Giving in to social pressure is a major indicator of insecurity. Every person has their principles and all that, and it only means that one feels less of themselves when they cannot stand by their own morals. It's a self-esteem thing, I think.
It's not all about self-esteem, however. The type of people one rolls with matters a lot. "Show me your friend, and I'll show you who you are" are not mere words. It starts with the company one keeps.
God help us, as it's getting much harder by the day to avoid "bad" people.
you are right, good personality and character can easily be changed if we moved with the bad egg... the solution is to choose to be friends with the good people
