Chatting on social media has made communication very easy and seamless. A lot can be done just by chatting on social media, though a lot mainly use them for only social gossip, trolling and others. I am one of few that has gained something good just by chatting on social media — WhatsApp Messenger, to be precise.
A semester before my graduation from the university, I was so scared of the next step to take. With the high rate of unemployment in the country, the joy of graduating from the university is always short-lived, as hours after, the reality of getting a job always settles in. My case wasn't that different but something I never expected happened one fateful day.
On the day of our final exams, after the normal signing out, a close friend of mine came over and said, "Chidubem what's up? What's the next step for you now, since you are now a graduate." I was out of words — my smiley face suddenly shrunk gradually. I told him, "bro, God got my back." While going home that day, a thought came to my mind to send messages to my contacts and groups on WhatsApp telling them my qualifications and my need for a job. It was an intentional act that turned out to be big.
I got home and did as my mind told me, without expecting anything. About two days later, I got a DM from a strange number referring to my post on our church group, saying that he made some enquiries when he got to work the next day and was told that there's only a vacancy for the position of a lab assistant. I was wowed and told him how grateful I was. And that was how I got my first job after school.
On the bad side, chatting on social media has cost me something worth writing about. I was on a project that needed submission in two days. I often submit my projects a day to the given deadline, so I was expected to submit this particular one in a day time.
Few hours into the next day, I got a response to a chat from my longtime crush. This is someone I have been longing to speak with so that I could let her know of my feelings towards her. Unfortunately she has been avoiding my chat until that day.
When I got the message, my heart skipped, I left my laptop on the bed, while attending to her. I was so consumed by the chat that I became unconscious of my environment — forgot my laptop was on the bed. In no time, I heard a knock on my door, on walking towards the door with my focus on the phone, I stepped on my laptop and damaged the screen. I was so annoyed and confused, as it has become impossible to meet up with my deadline.
It was more like the worst moment of being alive for me.
Hah!!!
Omo...
I'm sure the laptop was not happy about it either😂
That's distraction for you.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Like seriously, it was a bad experience.
Thanks for coming around.
