I cannot stress exhaustively the importance of having people follow you and appreciate what you do. It is one of the best things any content creator can hope for as gaining followers also means gaining an audience and without an audience who then are you making these contents for. It's certainly not for your child who's in high school or your spouse who's all drowned up in work. Your content has to speak to a set of individuals and when it does they see it fit to follow you for a chance to appreciate whatever it is you're giving.
Since I joined Hive and social media as a whole, I've followed a lot of people, individuals I think I could learn from, one's who's content actually inspire me to get better and most of all ones who I can easily relate with and enjoy what they give out. A lot of people have different reasons for following and as a newbie I certainly think you need to understand how important it is to have followers and the necessary tips needed to gain them. In this post I'll be sharing with you some of the tips I've gained over time in various platforms that still work wonders on Hive and then in another post that would be shared at another time I'll be outlining the lmportance of gaining followers.
Premise
I've always been one who's been passionate about what I do and I do it with a lot of zeal. Dancing is something that requires a lot of exposure and the only way to get that is to build your following. I started off on Instagram and in less than 3years I was able to gain over 5k followers before I was disabled for an unknown reason. I still didn't give and went on to open another account and I was still able to grow that to 1k follower under 6months without buying any organic followers.
The most impressing of all was when a friend asked me to open a Tiktok account which I did but I didn't really know where to start from because I wasn't actually familiar with the interphase and it's basic tricks. So I went on to start making research and started to try out one thing after another in six months. Then with work I was able to push my following to 1k followers and then in under three months push it to over 70k followers. I know it sounds like magic but it actually isn't. I just followed some easy steps that I'm 100% sure works on Hive and any social media platform you'll find yourself in.
How can you get people to Follow you?
They're a lot of ways people can follow you and some of them are:
Post original content
Social media is like an ocean filled with different ideas, different minds and different fishes. Everyone is indeed special in their own way but you'll never make it unless you stand out. There's no way you're going to stand out when you're plagerizing others works or spinning already successful content. It might work for you at first and you might get a good following but eventually you'll be found out and then you'll be treated worse than a thief.
Everyone has that uniqueness in them that only them possess. When I join Hive, I immediately fell in love with some authors and I followed them up, I tried to be like them, copy them and stuff. But with time I realized I couldn't be them, yes I could learn from them but what makes them unique is because they've discovered themselves and are original. You'll be doing yourself a lot of good if you take time to discover yourself and always be original no matter what. You'll be surprised how much people would appreciate your work and Follow you so they'll be able to see more and more of the magic you create.
Engage with Others
Engagement cannot ever be pushed aside as long as you want to win people and create a wide range of relationships that'll aid your journey in this ecosystem. First thing I learnt when I joined Hive was how to make a good comment and I'll advice you check out this post How to inprove your engagement skills by my boss @Starstrings01 as it contains details on how you can make good engagement. You can ask engagement gurus like @iskafan @olujay and @merit.ahama @hopestylist to also teach you because they're taking it to another level.
When you actually react to someone's post, make them actually see that you've read what they've put in time to create and it'll give them joy to know that someone really appreciate their work and they'll be obliged to check out your own work and for sure when they see that you're actually creating original and relatable content, they'll immediately follow you.
Engagement actually helps you build relationships, create a bond and make friends, all of which you need to climb the ladder of success. I take engagement seriously and I think you should too if you'll ever plan on making it in life. There's no rush, take your time, digest good content and always drop a rememberable comment with a touch of praise, it'll surely work wonders and gain you a following.
Follow trends
I learnt about following trends on tiktok and one trend actually skyrocketed my account and gave me a very healthy following. Trends are part of what keeps a space going. It is both enjoyable and brings about a sense of belonging. It is very important to follow trends on Hive and @Leofinance.io is a community that actually thrives in creating trends and pushing those who follow it.
When Threadshere was introduced, I had no idea what it was. But I kept seeing it pop up with different authors making posts of what they thought about this new development. Apart from helping in google search optimization. When you follow trends, people tend to be easily drawn to your content and the more people who see your content, the more upvotes and you'll be well on your way to the trending page. Following trends help you reach more people and if you're truely original, they'll surely appreciate your content and want to connect with you. Always give the people what they want to see but do it with a touch of creativity and originality, you'll surely gain a decent following.
Post consistently
You make one post a week and you expect to reach more people? I laugh you in spanish. Every day, people create contents and for yours to remain relevant and at the top you'll have to up your game and create as many quality content as possible. Instagram introduced a new algorithm where they'll start to prioritize new contents and whenever you go online those would be the first thing you see, so if someone tends to post consistently, you then to see them as often as possible.
There's this thing with patterns, if we tend to see something over and over again, it eventually sticks. If your name is popping up in someone's feed over and over again, they'll be forced to check you out, and when they do, they might as well follow so they'll continue seeing that name. Keep posting as consistently as possible. You can make a post daily if you're too busy or map out days to post in a week, it'll help you build account and gain you a good following.
Join and Create contests
Hive contest compiler for updates on Hive contests.This is another important way to build your following. When you join a contest, you put yourself out there. On hive they're various contents in various communities. It gives you a chance to connect with other authors and them a chance to check you out. I started off joining contests I could both learn from and also thrive in and with time I got better, then when I got featured as a winner I got the chance to gain followers too. Build yourself up, show up everyday and be part of a contest that'll both challenge you to be better and build you a following. Do well to check out @ksam's
If you have enough (well it doesn't have to be too much) resources you can as well start up a contest. As long as it increases engagement that's you adding value to the community. Creating a contest gives others a chance to know you, that's why I can never forget @dreemsteem because she's always doing the most. This gives others a chance to follow you so they'll get more updates about your contest and some would just admire you enough to follow you.
Conclusion
Building a following can never be neglected because it is a necessity any where you find yourself. I'm sorry if this post ends up being too long, I tried to be as detailed as I could be to ensure you really understand and gain a thing or two.
