As a lover of animals, I don't like seeing them in pain; it feels like I am being hurt; as big as I am killing a chicken is a big problem.
If they buy chicken in my house and ask me to kill it, it will stay there till everybody comes back home. It's not me that will kill it, I am always scared of hurting or killing any animal except a snake
Animals have feelings and family, too. We might not understand how the families that watch you murder their members feel, too.
I remember one festive period, my daddy bought turkey and chicken for celebration; while he was leaving in the morning, he asked us to kill it before he came back, and we both agreed; instead of telling him that we couldn't, we just agreed.
Only for my father to leave, I and my brothers started arguing about who would kill the chicken and turkey. Finally, my cousin summoned the courage to kill it, which he succeeded in doing, but not without my last born crying as if we murdered a human; he refused to eat the chicken because it was his favorite chicken that was killed.
It's inevitable for humans not to use animals for experiments; how do we get different injections to be produced without animals? Every drug and injection that was produced was test on by animals like rats, rabbits, monkeys, and even chickens is used for experiments.
In my three hundred level in school, we have a practical on a particular course, I think it's taxidermy. We were asked to buy three white rabbits and a goat for the experiment. I raised my hand and asked if we were going to kill, then my lecturer looked me in the eyes and said No. Which was a lie.
On the day of the experiment, I fought to hold back my tears, cause one of the little cute rabbits that were bought was killed inhumanely by putting it inside a carton, closing all the lids so that air could enter inside, and leaving only one place to face it toward the exhaust pipe of a generator until it struggled and dies.
I told myself, you sure say this course you are studying is for you. We used that rabbit to find out how generator smoke kills and what the heart looks like after inhaling carbon monoxide for a long time.
We can't use humans for such experiments, so only animals are allowed, ordinary to draw blood from our fellow humans there is doubt in their eyes,
Scientist uses these animals for the betterment of the human race; without them, I don't think there are better options anywhere. Even machines don't have most of the features animals and humans have, so they can't react as humans. So, it's impossible for scientists and humans not to use animals for experiments.
If they didn't die after each experiment, let them be set free instead of caging them and allowing them to their own space.

The issue is that we lack alternatives. If we had better options, there's just no way that anyone would prefer to let animals go through all that trouble.
