Monetization:A good that has bred evil

in Hive Learners24 days ago

Before social media was used to pass information and save pictures for some people. But these days things that people post online all in the name of content creation are alarming and at times I wonder where some of them borrowed their audacity from.

How can a whole grown man and woman put on pants to quarrel in public all in the name of content? What of those who play expensive pranks on people all in the name of content too?

Monetizing social media was never a bad idea it was the best thing that has happened to many people, as people can express themselves, and share good information and useful health tips. Talents are been discovered every day cause of social media.

You make money from your talent and share your ideas with people from far and near. But the problem right now is the kind of things that people put online cause of this money stuff. They bring out content that poisons people's minds, some content triggers tribal war.

People post both fake information, just to get views, followers, and likes. Imagine the recent Nursing issues that embarrass the First Lady, if they had sung without video, Nobody would have known what happened, what of the Killing in Edo state, and what's videoing where you are murdering your fellow human being was it necessary.

One thing again about this monetization is the data exploration, some of these social media companies collect and sell user data without consent. You will only end up seeing yourself in a deep issue that you don't even know how it comes about.

People now prioritize content that generates more engagement or revenue over content that is valuable. Someone will post content that can help one make their life better, and you will see few likes and comments but the moment someone posts something discriminating, sexual or gender equality, oh comments are flying, and before 10 seconds four thousand likes or more.

Everybody wants to make money by all means. In my country, I will say that's the worst thing that has ever happened to them. Everybody wants to make money from social media, scammers are online now misleading people with fake news
and spreading false information, contributing to public confusion and harm. It has become a platform for harassment and bullying, causing emotional harm to users.

People now make content that has helped increase the rates of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Because of too many unrealistic comparisons, most people now have low self-esteem and an inferiority complex. The fakeness is just too much that we hardly know what is real and fake anymore.

As much as it is good that one can make extra income from social media, it's also good for government to look into what some people post online and, if possible ban it. Social media companies should ban some content no matter how funny it may look especially content that promotes racism, tribalism, and so on.
