Hello learners, well, today's topic happens to be in my field and I always love to talk about it to anyone who cares to listen, so let's dive in.
There is always a slogan we use and share with the world at large. It says great environmentalist," We reduce, we reuse we recycle and we recover", the greatest environmentalist "We make the world Go Green" Greatest environmentalist "Save the planet, we have no planet B". So with this in mind, we were taught to always start keeping the environment clean from our house to our surroundings to the public as a whole.
HOW OFTEN DO I RECYCLE?
Well, if you are a Nigerian, you will know that we are the best reusers, when it comes to plastic, I don't dispose of my nylon anyhow, I always reuse it for example if I go to the supermarket and buy some provisions, they nylon the use in packaging the goods, I will still reuse it again, at times I use it in make light for firewood.
I always recycle plastics, nylons, and whatever that can be of good use. I make good use of it.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME I RECYCLE?
It was yesterday when I bought a new big scatchet of detergent, instead of leaving it inside the pack that it came with and it will be pouring away, I just use one of the plastic bottles to store it, that way it will be safe and not pour away.
IS THERE A RELIABLE RECYCLING SYSTEM IN MY COUNTRY?
There might be but am not sure, because I do see young boys and ladies picking plastic bottles of any size in a big sack bag and always taking them to a factory where they are weighed, then those who brought the bottle are being paid for it. Although I don't know what they use the bottles to do it's a lucrative business nowadays but are we ready to look like mad people picking up bottles from the waste bin?
Nigeria has a growing awareness of the importance of recycling, but the country's recycling infrastructure is still developing. Many Nigerians do not have access to reliable recycling systems, and waste management is often inadequate.
In Nigeria, some organizations and communities are working to improve recycling practices and waste management. For example, some companies are implementing recycling programs for plastics, glass, and paper, like that picking of bottles and sell to companies. while community initiatives are promoting composting and waste reduction.
However, more needs to be done to establish a reliable and widespread recycling system in Nigeria. Many people still dispose of recyclable items with regular trash, which ends up in landfills or dump sites especially market women.
How often do I reuse this waste?
Often because I use some of these waste bottles for storing oil like groundnut oil, red oil, and coconut oil. While I reuse the nylon for setting fire to firewood and other things.
Overall, while there are efforts underway to improve recycling in Nigeria, more work is needed to create a robust and effective recycling system.
