Crispy Poha and Murmura Snack Recipe – A Perfect Tea-Time Delight

Today, I’m excited to share a simple yet delicious recipe for a crispy poha and murmura snack. The best part? You can make a big batch and store it for weeks!

Ingredients
Cooking oil (as needed)
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 dried red chilies
A few curry leaves
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ cup peanuts
2 cups thick poha (flattened rice)
3 cup thin poha
Salt to taste
2 cups murmura (puffed rice)
½ cup makhana (fox nuts)
Optional: Cashews and almonds (for extra crunch)
Instructions
Frying tha peanuts
Heat oil in a big pan on medium heat. Add peanuts and roast thum until golden and crunchy. If using cashews or almonds, them alongside the peanuts. Remove out and keep a side.
Tempering the Spices
Same oil in the pan on medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Then, toss in dried red chilies, curry leaves, and turmeric powder. Stir for a few seconds until fragrant.
Toasting the Poha
Now, add thick poha to the pan and stir-fry until it puffs up slightly. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Then, add the thin poha and mix well. Be careful with the salt—it doesn’t absorb much in this recipe, so add sparingly.
Adding the Murmura
Lower the heat and continue stirring the mixture for about 10-15 minutes to ensure even crisping. Then, add the murmura and mix everything well. Stir for another 3-4 minutes.
Final Touch
In a separate pan, dry-roast the makhana until crispy. Mix it into the prepared poha and murmura mixture and fried peanut. Your crunchy, flavorful snack is now ready!
Serving and Storage
Let the mixture cool completely before storing it in an airtight container. It stays fresh for weeks and is perfect for munching anytime. Serve with a hot cup of chai, and enjoy the irresistible crunch!
