I think parents should be helped if they have been very lovely and helpful with you, of course with limits... I can't sell my house to pay their debts... Here when relatives die you can either do : accept all assets AND the debts or refuse all assets and debts, so get nothing... But the law says here that you are forced to give support to sons and parents, like you can't let them live in the street with no food at any age
