Easy Access To Knowledge Is Blessing To Those Who Embrace It
Each time I sit with the old and they start narrating stories of how they walked miles, to go to school, travel long distances to post offices to send and receive letters, and also go long distances to libraries in order to get materials to study, I see how lucky we are in this generation.
Obviously that is why during their time only a few individuals were interested in school and knowledge was scarce. But if you meet someone that is learned, you would see it clearly on the person.
Our generation is truly blessed and lucky. All those gaps preventing easy acquisition of knowledge have been breached. These days, knowledge is the one looking for people unlike the days of our parents but unfortunately most people don't even have time for it.
The invention of smartphones, personal computers and social media has made it so convenient for knowledge to reach everyone at little or no price at all.
Recently I have been working on my vocabulary from Facebook. They monitor the kind of contents that interest me and bring more of them to me. Each day, just scrolling my news feed, I get new words to practice from some of the pages I once interacted with and to be frank, I am enjoying it.
It's not like some years back that one has to go through the textbook and struggle to get information. Personal AI and the internet is available now to give us accurate information.
Knowledge is just at our fingertips. We have everything it takes to gather any kind of information we desire but our parents didn't get that privilege.
Nevertheless, there is something with knowledge, it honors whoever honors it. It doesn't matter whether one has easy access to knowledge, if the person is careless and unserious, the knowledge will not come.
Ideally having easy access to learning materials is supposed to be a plus to our generation but it will only be a blessing to us if we honor it.
Our parents suffered to get information during their day but they were intentional about knowledge. I mean why won't they even be? Imagining trekking kilometers to go to the library, when you arrive there, you won't need anyone to advise you to study like your life depends on it.
Sometimes, I feel like inconvenience also helps us to achieve our goals. People tend to feel very comfortable when they have what they need at their disposal.
Take for instance, I used to feel very lazy whenever I am studying a book that is mine but if I borrow from someone, I can stay awake through the night just to finish up the book because I know I have a deadline, eventually I will have to return the book to its owner.
Having easy access to knowledge is both a blessing and a set back depending on how we embrace it. If we are intentional and decide to take advantage of the opportunity it brings to us, then it will be a blessing to us because we have limitless knowledge, we will have so much till we decide that we are okay.
You can bear witness, people who are intentional about knowledge in our day are double of what our predecessors were. They are smarter and super intelligent, almost like machines.
On the other hand, if we take the opportunity casually, it can end up making us lazy by building a solid habit of procrastination in our minds in the name of I can practice anytime since the materials will always be here.
More like people don't value what they get easily without working for it, well truthfully our generation definitely lacks discipline to appreciate what we are privileged to have in our own generation. Which has led to the misuse of knowledge that was so dear to our predecessors.
It so unfortunate that things turned out this way. I am just imagining what the world would have been if it was our predecessors that had this privilege.
Thanks for stopping by papa
It is unfortunate that this is really happening in today's time where people are not interested in school and feel that everything can be done easily without school.
Hmm, you are right, it's such a pathetic situation, some people don't value school anymore in this generation because they think they can self learn. I just hope they will not regret it someday .
Thanks for stopping by sir
I hope so..
