Everyone has their opinion on this matter, what is convenient for me as an employee may not be convenient for my employer, in this generation of social media a lot is going on, we can both look at each other's perspective and understand everyone's decision.
From an employer's perspective, requiring employees to submit their social media handles can help maintain a professional image and prevent potential reputational damage. In today's digital age, social media can be a powerful tool for spreading information, and companies want to ensure that their employees are not sharing anything that could harm the organization's reputation. By knowing what their employees are posting online. Every employer will protect the image of their company at all costs especially if the employee is a social media type.
Also, from an employee's perspective, being asked to submit their social media handles can be seen as an invasion of privacy. Employees have a right to their personal online space, and being forced to share it with their employer can be seen as an overreach of power. Many people use social media to express themselves, share their thoughts and opinions, and connect with friends and family. Requiring them to submit their social media handles can be seen as a way for employers to exert control over their employees' personal lives.
Both sides have their reasons for doing so, as for me submitting my social media handle will never be a problem, I am someone who does not like posting on social media, I am not a social media type and that is why I am not addicted to it, since my employer is not asking for my password then I am cool to share it, what if we have been following each other before that time.
I see no reason for me not to share my handles with my employer, I do not have anything to hide, I am not someone who can spoil other people's reputations through social media, I do not cause havoc or bully people, I only use social media for my side business and not all the time, I am a Peaceful person on all my social media platform, so sharing my handles with my employer will never take me a minute to do so since it is my dream job.
Anything can happen to my handles at any time, some years back my Facebook account was hacked, I had already built a good reputation by having some meaningful friends on it, I had to let it go and open a new one, we can see that all these social media platforms are not reliable, the only thing is to guide my password very well and since my employer is not asking for my password then I am cool to let it out, they can only glance through my page but never invade my privacy, social media is never my life and it will not.
I was on social media last night and I saw that the US government has banned TikTok from their country, most people were not happy about this and the same thing happened to Twitter in my country before everyone had access to it back, all these are not reliable, I need that job than I need social media, so there is nothing to regret about my decision.

I don't think its wise for employers to ask for their employee's social media handle and make it compulsory because it will hinder a lot of things at work, but for me, I see nothing bad in employers doing it privately. Although it is still intruding into their employer's private life.
If I am asked to submit my social media handle for my dream job, I will drop it because there is nothing there and there is always a way to go around social media once an account gets compromised.
That is my opinion, if I am to submit my handles in other to get my dream job then I will concur, there is nothing to hide and social media is not a private place for me
Exactly my point too

Rightly said, "Every employer will protect the image of their company at all costs especially if the employee is a social media type". Same here for me I can share my social media handle because I don't really have much going on there only my side hustle which has nothing to do with the type of job I do.
Thanks for sharing I like the way you explain
When I see my dream job I will now jeopardize it because of social media that I may not open for a week or more, who am I not to submit it 😂
You can't give what you don't have......
This might be the reason why am employer may consider viewing the social media handles of a prospective employer before absorbing him or her.
You are right too
There are very few people who tarnish someone's reputation through social media and such people are easily identified. If such people are working in any organisation and they do such things, then such people should first be given a warning and if they do it again, then such people should be fired.
Some people love violence than peace, they are always online to bully others, since I do not have anything to hide I would rather give out my social media handles to my employer
I think I am with you on this matter. It depends on the kind of life one lives on social media if not, there is nothing wrong with your employer having your social handle, nevertheless, it should not be a law because that sounds like intrusion into one's privacy
Give Ceaser what belongs to the Ceaser, if my employer is so much interested in my social media handles then I would give it out because there is nothing private about it.
I think some employers who would be asking this maybe for reputation sake...even though it's intruding into someone privacy...as long as it wouldn't affect me negatively and I will have my dream job..then it's fine
Since I do not have any skeleton in my cupboard, I am on a peaceful journey on any of my social media platforms so it won't be a problem to give them my handles.
There is nothing bad for an employee to submit there social media handle to there employer. After all there is nothing private there again the company is only watching out for the organization
If in the future the way we know people get famous and they hand over their social media accounts to managers, I wouldn't do that at all because if the manager makes a mistake and accidentally posts something wrong. If he does, I will get his punishment.
I say no because then personal politics get played into the workplace. I’ve had people judge me based on the type of music I like, and some people might get judged based on them liking a certain clothing brand which has nothing to do with their work performance or how they dress at work.
It’s stupid in my opinion, but employers do watch people’s social and treat people differently based on what they post. It’s just apart of living in 2025.
It shouldn’t be an issue unless people are posting damaging things like bringing violence to the workplace or showing themselves engaging in illegal activities that could affect their work performance in my opinion…

Some employers can be an intruders, poking noses in your business online but left to me I am not always on social media and if giving out my handles will earn me the job then I can give it out and let them explore and get tired of it 😂
