RURAL HEALTH OUTREACH: GIVING BACK TO THE SOCIETY ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Šโ›‘๏ธ

Life is not about how much to take, but about how much to give. Life is too big to live it for oneself alone, but to live it for others making positive impacts and touching lives in a good manner through influence. I'm a strong advocate for community service and volunteering work which i have been doing for a long time now and never regretted doing such. Such community service or volunteering can be inform of a professional or non-professional service, charitable deed, hospitality or rehabilitation, campaigns/enlightenment and so on.

Right from a very young age, i have been involved in community service and volunteering work for organisations as part of my contribution to the betterment of my society and nation at large. As a healthcare professional (Pharmacist), i have volunteered for different health outreaches even right from my undergraduate days. For example, i remembered that i went for several health outreaches to the rural areas as organised by the religious organisation i belong to then during my undergraduate days on semester basis. By my healthcare knowledge, i believe i can help the government reach the rural areas with less healthcare coverage by such health outreach.

On September 24, 2024 i was part of the professional healthcare team that organised a rural health outreach to a town in my state of residence/practice here in my country Nigeria. This health outreach was part of the program slated to commemorate the 2024 World's Pharmacist Day and volunteers were needed to be part of the team for this health outreach which i gladly did. Through this outreach, the people were enlightened on the need to prioritize their health and well-being giving them tips and insights on how to live healthily even in this current age. In addition, health check-ups were carried out same with consultations and medicines were dispensed as appropriate.

Earlier in the same year, i volunteered for a live radio presentation on a radio station in my state of residence/practice on "drug abuse and drug trafficking" and also, a similar rural health outreach was held in another location earlier in the same year which i volunteered for aswell. Doing this gives me joy and i count it as a privilege of giving back to my society because i believe that the government all alone cannot do it and it's the responsibility of we the citizens to engage in such selfless service for a better society and nation at large.

Such volunteering/community service affords me the honour to learn new things even as i interact with other professionals and also for a firsthand experience of the reality of things i have read or heard about prevalent in rural communities. It also reinforces my passion for primary healthcare especially to the unreached. I planned going and hosting one this year 2025 even as i love it to be on a yearly basis and to volunteer more even as time and chances permits for this selfless and humanitarian service. Thanks so much for reading even as comments and contributions are welcomed.

Community service is good, at least everyone will be aware of their health, what to do and what you should not do. Weldone sir.
