I know someone would be quick to say does peer pressure has any benefit? Is there any good thing in this? The conventional mindset is programmed with notion that peer pressure is usually negative. We don't care to figure out any significant thing that emanates from having any peer. Once you said this is your peer the next thing is hmmm gang of bad people.
Peer pressure has both negative and positive impact however i think the positive side is more if only we can behold it with an opened mind.
Stumbling on this topic for this edition, i was like where would i start? What would i say? After a while i began to brainstorm and look at it in a deeper sense. I have come to realise that peer pressure is really required for any indelible mark we intend to make in this life. Every successful person being envied seen today is a product of the kind of pressure received from his peers. There is nothing we do in life that doesn't ooze from the womb of peer pressure.
The kind of peer we keep determine how we pursue our purpose in life. When you are not pressured, stepping out to face life's reality might be difficult to many. There are people that don't like to take any proactive step to achieve something unless acted upon by peer of good individuals.
The role of peer pressure in my life can't be overemphasized. Let me quickly share some stories and what the experience taught me.
There is a young man that had toil the shores of life for couple of years without gaining any mastery over anything. Life was becoming challenging and seems he escorted others. No achievement, no noticeable successes. The kind of peers he had during that season weren't purpose driven hence he found it difficult to forge ahead with something definite.
Later, God helped and he met some league of mission minded persons. He got engaged with them and started pursuing what they are into. He found fulfilment. This was the genesis of turnaround of things in his life. The friends pressure him and encouraged him to put himself together. They restored his lost hope and brought future afresh to is nose. He listened carefully to their various testimonies and he was moved to start up something. Today, he's doing well with his family. The children are going to school, doing exploits wherever they are.
Not all peer pressure is evil instead peer pressure is a secret of greatness and uncommon success. I could remember most of the decision i made in life were the function of peer pressure. I hadly take proactive step to do things but immediately my friends inspired me, there was a paradigm shift in the horizon of my thoughts and i started doing the right things. One of the clear cut decision i could remember was obtaining my firs degree. I never believed in my self. I almost wanted to give up but my good friends encouraged me. Today i am where I am because grace has found me through peer pressure.
Peer pressure makes one to take the rightful decision and move in a positive way. Thanks.
Absolutely correct 👍 the kind of peer we keep will determine what becomes of us. We have friends who would push us to greater heights, same as those who would push us to ruining our lives; it all depends on our choices.
