Hive is not just a social network. It's much more than that. Especially a great arena for coders to play on, and build some cool apps & solutions. If you want to make a huge mark on the platform, learning to code is the best way to go about it. Even if you are a creator, some coding skills in your pocket wouldn't hurt. It will give you access to information & tools that others can't have if they don't know how to talk to computers & software. That's the highest form of EDGE you can have on Hive or in any blockchain community. Unfair advantage is a skill or privilege that is unique to you and sets you apart from the crowd. Good thing is that you can create such a state for yourself.
In this blog, I will try to convince you to learn to code if you are looking to have an unfair advantage on Hive:
Coding Will Increase Your Influence
Most influential people on Hive will always be coders or people who can talk to them. Just look at the top 20 witnesses. And then look at the top 50. Almost of them are coders. Those who are not, they need other coders to run their witness nodes. Witnesses secure the network and validate blocks. They have the most important job on the network and hence they have the most influence. If you are a coder, it will be a little easy for you to become a witness as compared to other folks. People who can build cool Dapps and tools that solve problems also have the most influence and guess what, you need coding skills for that. Your opinion will matter to other people & they will most probably listen when you say something. That's the power coders possess.
Coding Will Allow You To Hack Time With Automation
Let's just say you are a trader. You want to dump some coins on Hive-Engine and then buy some coins. It will take a lot of time to sell each one of them and buy the ones you like. If you have coding skills, you can create a bot that trades for you, based on the conditions you set. Just imagine how much time you will save by automating mundane but necessary Hive Tasks. That precious time can be better spent with your family & friends or doing whatever the heck you want to.
You can also build a no-code tool that let other non-coders automate their own tasks. Hive community would love you for doing that.
Coding Will Help You Network With Other Talented Coders
According to my various experiences, Devs are one of the coolest people on earth. :) I did my graduation in software engineering. LMAO! And here I am doing completely different than what I was supposed to do. I quit my software development job in 2017 because I used to suck at it & started hating it so much. At the same time, I developed a huge respect for people who could manage writing thousands of lines of code just like that. Thanks to my job, I have met so many brilliant minds in my life. If you are a coder yourself, that opens up the doors to the diverse and talented Hive Dev community. It's a great networking opportunity like no other.
Coding Is A High-Income Skill
As the world becomes more reliant on technology, coders are becoming more valuable. That should be a huge cue for you. Good coders will never be out of demand and they are currently short on supply. Even Hive has a shortage of cool developers who are not involved in anything. Web3 is eating the world so being a coder who knows how to play with blockchain technology such as Hive can benefit you financially in long term. A senior developer can earn anywhere between $50k-$150k depending upon your location and specialty. Moreover, you can do your work remotely so opportunities are endless.
Conclusion
Becoming a coder is a great career choice and a really cool add-on to your skills. Coding can be a great creative outlet for many people. Most importantly, you can unfair advantage over others on Hive or anywhere else in your life if you know how to communicate with computers. Don't even need to go to college to learn to code. All information is available online for free. Just need lots of determination and extreme action from your side. Do remember, many great coders started with only "Hello World". :) So if you have the grit & wit for it, don't think twice and start coding. You will thank yourself 5 years down the line for getting into it.

Fucking awesome mates. We need such a project on Hive.
You guys are doing an amazing job on HIVE. Huge fan!!!

going to check that out!

What coding language should we be learning then?
These are good reasons to get the skill, the trading bot got my interest :)
But true, the market for this skill is huge.
Thank you for this!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Huge market and less supply of good devs. There's a good opportunity for everyone to grab.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That's true and I guess it will be an ever-growing field and the demand will continue.

It's easy for one to say he wants to learn programming, but it's another case to master it.. The learning curve is steep and one needs to have set his mind not to give up because it comes with frustration.
I am going into programming because I want something different, a way to work from home, and a job that would not let me depend on Hive for a living. That way, I can save my Hive earnings and build it as well.
100% bro. It's very tough to become a good dev. It would take a ton of good projects and work to master your craft.
That's how you play bro. Hive should not be your main source of income. Not until you invest enough to take an income out every month. I am sure you got this and I believe in you. Btw, what are you going for?
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I am learning Frontend and Cloud Engineering. I have learnt HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I have not learnt React yet. I will do that maybe afterwards.
But for Cloud Engineering (my main focus) I am learning Linux operating system at the moment..
In 12 months' time, I hope to be a full-stack web developer and a DevOps Engineer.
If you noticed, I am not as active on Hive as I used to. I am directing all my energy to build these skills. It may hurt my hive account and visibility but it is the sacrifice I am ready to pay.
So I can come back investing hugely in my Hive Power and work towards becoming a whale.
You are already half the whale if you follow this solid strategy. Love it bro. I have a great suggestion for you. Post about what you learn, the struggles you face, the wins you make, and the losses you take. You are actually doing it in some way or the other.
Writing blogs will clear your head because you cannot write code all day and it will also solidify the learnings in your brain. Good luck!!
12 months of struggle can put you 12 years ahead in life for sure.

Hmm true! I should be creating articles of my journey and what I learn. Thanks so much for the tip brother
Great post. What languages should one learn to become a Hive developer? If an individual had an idea for a Hive dapp, what coding languages would they familiarize themselves with?
I did a Hive Dev survey recently and these are the languages others are using. Javascript and Python are the most commonly used by many devs on Hive.
@cwow2, should help you get some ideas. Cheers mate!
@epic-fail.. please check this. I hope it answers your question as well.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
thanks, I've been looking into Free Code Academy but was not sure which language would be the best to start with , so I will be learning JS !
Awesome mate. Good luck to you 🔥
I think it is time I revisit my forgotten python skills!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Haha. Sure mate!! All the best. ;)
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thanks for that!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Great work!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thanks a ton Dane. Cheers! A lot of work still needs to be done but it was definitely a good start. Need some more data. I want to prepare a blog on why anyone should develop on Hive. Want to target everyone - even non-devs and non-native speakers should be able to understand it.
Another common feedback we got is that devs don't have the proper documentation and resources to get started. Now there is an opportunity for an existing Hive Dev to fill this gap.

When recommending people on what language to start when learning to code, markdown/html should always come first, this can be tried and experimented on every Hive front-end, right there when they write their post, even on Actifit posts is available.
Thanks for these valuable suggestions brother. Markdown and HTML do help.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I can bet that 99%+ of posters don't use it! 😁
I do use markdown almost everyday. HTML, not so much!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
What is the top coding language that would be most useful to learn?
Already answered in one of the comments.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Said very well, I'm planning to start learning coding found many reasons to do so hopefully soon.
Do it bro. It's going to change your life for sure. You are young and it's the best age to get into something new. Would build a strong foundation for the upcoming years of your life.

Yea man, lot of things motivated me to Go for it and pushing myself for it. Need your best wishes.!
I have no idea if I have the wit for it but coding does interest me. I'm not really passionate about it but i guess I'll do anything to improve my chances in this money grubbing world 😂. What's the simplest coding language a novice (who's a dummie as well) can start with?
Haha. Glad you found your reasons to learn coding. It's okay if money is one of them but it might demotivate you. You also need to have the passion to code. But you will never know if that's true if you don't try. So go for it.
I would say Python or Javascript. Have heard from many devs that both of them are easy to learn and many free tuts available online.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
So YouTube?? That's the only place I know. I do know about Demotivation. Happened with Hive till I learned to genuinely love being here. So I'll try, and if it's not for me, i won't bother. But i have to admit, it'll be nice to not just be the English kinda gyal 😅🙂
Haha. Sure. You can try YT and one more thing not many people do. You can follow other coders on Twitter and Instagram. They give out tips and tricks to get better at this craft.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Great. I'll get to it. Good thing I have a laptop 😀
A laptop and an internet connection is all you need :')
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That's cool to hear.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Python and I have notes @deraaa if you want, it would be a breeze for you. Stacks of great YT sites too, and I saw earlier about @hk-university
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Awesome. Maybe share it on your Hive account in your next post. That will be beneficial for everyone.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Will see what I can do at some point yes!
:) we`re here!
Excellent, going to check you out today:)

right behind you
awesome I like you there
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Ohhhh. Then I am in your Dm!!
okay then!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Indeed, if you are a coder you can just build your ideas and reap the rewards. Especially on HIVE as you can be useful to the community and therefore have more people voting for you!
I wish I knew how to code but in fact, I wish I wasn't so lazy and would take the 100+ hours to learn it!
Anyone can! Just need some will.
CryptoLemon
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
LMAO. Hive-5 @vlemon. I can relate to being so lazy. 😂
Writing articles and posting shitcomments is my thing. xD
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Well written and factual. Learning coding is one thing on my wish list and I hope it finds it way to the to-do list by 2023 Q1. Having coding skills is really an advantage.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thanks a lot bro. Just don't think twice and go for it bro. Without trying you won't even know about the possibilities. My wishes are always with you.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Coding is a high income skill but I still think it's going to be quite tough. I know what coding is but I don't really do anything in regards to it because it's tough to make something that is actually worthwhile.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yes J, I agree that it's tough. That is what makes it a high-income skill. Not everyone can do it and there is a huge shortage of good devs in the web3 space.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
it makes sense
Yes mate. It does :))

I recently got some beem Docs links and now trying to understand how the heck it works. I hope it will not that easy to learn so quickly, but it will give me some idea for coding.
Thanks nice article.

All the best bro. Need any help? Just ask anyone in the Hive Devs community. I am sure someone will be happy to assist you.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Oh thanks for the support, I'll sure keep in touch for any help and tips and tricks.
As far as coding language, take a look at https://developers.hive.io/
Javascript, Python, and Ruby are listed. That should say a lot.
Aside from that, no one cares what language a dapp is written in. Folks just want to use it.
Just build.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thanks a lot for your suggestion @crrdlx. A lot people are asking the same question. I suggested JS and Python to everyone. Didn't know about Ruby!
THIS. Language is just a medium of communication.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I've never messed with Ruby, but there it is on the dev page so someone on Hive must use it. I also recently saw someone building something with Rust (can't recall who or where it was). As I understand, Rust is a bit intimidating, but very powerful...it's for the power devs.
