Many times, I have thought about how we got to the point where a lot of our music no longer has a positive impact on people anymore. If we look deeply, it's not just the music industry but the whole entertainment industry deteriorating when it comes to the quality they dish out to the public. Skit makers, movie producers, and influencers aren't left out of these discussions, as they now put mostly stuff that lacks depth out there, which I find annoying because of their negative influence on society.

These guys just go to the studio, spit some low-quality lyrics into the mic, and boom, they've made a hit. It's so bad that 90% of the music out there encourages fraud, drugs, and many other terrible things, which is completely different from what we used to have some decades ago. Just two decades ago, I could still vouch for many artists despite being a child because their music touched deep, but things have changed.

We see teenagers commit so many vices today, and many of them were inspired by the music and the lifestyle of artists they listen to. I always imagined how songs like these make it out of the studio, not to speak of radio & TV stations airing them. It tells how terrible the industry has turned over the decades, and no one is condemning these things because they are making money from the deteriorated state of music in the country.

I remember watching one of the big female rappers in the industry singing along to one of her songs playing on her phone, and immediately she saw her daughter; she stopped the music. I couldn't stop laughing because that has proven one thing: many of these artists know what they are dumping out there but do not care since making money is the goal, and we can't blame them since without us, their music means nothing. We are the ones who listen to their music and even promote them, which automatically means that we are empowering these artists.

Many of us barely give good music the chance, and that further explains why we are part of the problem and not just the artist.

The social media isn't helping matters as well because promoting these low-quality songs has become a lot easier for fans and artists. One of the things they do is create a challenge, especially on TikTok, and before you know it, that low-quality music will become a hit. What am I driving at? Without us, these songs stand no chance, and despite seeing the negative impact, we still give support to these artists.

I thought about this critically and finally concluded that the only reason why low-quality music has been growing rapidly is because of what we support as music lovers. Let's imagine a new artist with awesome music who is trying to build a name for himself but couldn't find a breakthrough in the industry while artists doing the opposite are succeeding. Such an artist wouldn't hesitate to divert since he or she needs to make money as well.

We can point out artists who switched completely from their awesome music to something else, all because they want to be heard, and they are left with just one option, join the trend.

Setting a standard to bring back quality to the music industry would be very challenging since a lot of people enjoy that music. One thing I realized is that no matter how terrible an artist is, he or she would always have a fan base, which means that those artists are getting support whether you and I like them or not.

We can't expect everyone to have the same taste or demands when it comes to music, but there should be decency. It shouldn't just be about the beat; we need good lyrics that would pass a positive message across to the music lovers across the world.

  • As fans, showing support for good music is very important. We need to start promoting and attending concerts where good music is guaranteed so that new musicians can confidently do reasonable music with the assurance of getting support from people.

  • Another thing is giving constructive criticism so that artists can know how their music stands in society. Unfortunately, criticism comes based on sentiment, which makes no sense to me. Many artists don't even listen to this criticism because they know it's coming from someone who hates them passionately. We can't expect such criticism to help these artists improve, so it's important that we give reasonable criticism that would make artists sit and think deeply about the kind of music they are putting out there.

When we listen, share and promote bad songs, we are only empowering these artists to create more which is deteriorating to the society at large. Songs in the past were so meaningful and some of them still are ingrained in my heart till now and I appreciate those artists. Today, many songs have gone wrong all in the bid to make money fast.

A lot of people actually care about the money really, they just want to be famous and that's all. It's sad that music has taken a new turn and many of us have to keep listening to old school just to enjoy good music.

If there is ever going to be a change in the industry, it would start with us.

 yesterday

The period where songs will stand the test of time is no more. Artists will just release anything they want and expect us to accept it. It's sad but it's something that happens more often than we'd care to admit it. We need to wake up as a people. Thats what's more important.

I agree with you on the fact that music has lost quality and it's one of the reasons why these songs just fade after a short time.

There are old schools I listen to and I just laugh when comparing them to the things we have today. Very disappointing.

This unfair competition between those who make commercial music and the true artists who create lyrics with feeling and from emotions is really a problem. I miss the old days where real music was made, and I'm talking about the 50s and 60s, where the true pioneers of the music industry, the origin of culture, were really there.

50s & 60s, those are quite a long time and I feel blessed still meeting good music before everything became what it is today.

Even on hive...most of us do the same thing, especially people with nice auto votes...most people have shifted from quality to more desire to earn quick to the detriment of the society
Giving constructive criticism is nice if done in a way to bear God result

 yesterday

That's true, a lot of people don't care about the quality of what they are dishing out as long as they are getting something substantial in the end.

Constructive criticism is indeed a good way of bringing people to see their mistakes but not everyone is happy about being criticised especially when they feel like they are too big to be corrected.

Nothing is more painful than the fact that they still blow with it man
Just imagine Speedy Darlington for instance, he does absolutely nothing yet he gets massive support than most diligent artist out there... It's really something to be worried about indeed.

You've spoken well friend because reiterating what you said, without us, these songs cannot thrive at all and they stand no chance other than changing their ways to writing something meaningful.

It just feels like we're stucked though because I won't lie to you, just like I did on my post, those songs are the types that give us the party vibes we crave and that's why it feels like we can't help it but what's worrisome is 90% of the songs becoming that

 yesterday

I am glad you got my point and if we are being honest, people are truly stuck. These songs are practically the ones we can groove to so demanding for a change would mean taking them down. On the other hand, I believe that we can still enjoy danceable songs with good lyrics and not those talking about how they did internet fraud or took weed before they became famous.

That's true

There is a whole industry behind making bad artist become popular and people consume their music! it isn't by their own merit for sure!

That's right... I believe that there are so many people who benefit from this terrible music and that's why things won't change easily.

It so sad and that just the reality. Gone are the days of nice musics. Though there are still some good songs but that happens to be less listened to and also come once a blue moon.

This is the world we find ourselves today. I can’t laugh about the female artist 😂. Trying to guess who in my mind. 😆. God help us.

It's actually Nicki Minaj and that woman is just something else.

The music industry has really deviated from quality and it's all about the money plus fame. I am one of those who still do lots of old school, I just can't ignore the terrible lyrics we get these days.
