Hello guys, welcome to my blog, so nice to have you here. It's the 51st week and 3rd edition of the hive learners community writing contest, and this week's topic; if allowed to choose where will you rather live, The urban or rural environment?

I reside in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, the mainland, I have lived here my whole life right from birth, and I have also had the opportunity of living in my hometown which is more of a rural environment.

Lagos is a lively city, it never sleeps, and there are so many advantages of living in this city, I will be listing a few of them, but for every positive part, there will also be a negative, so I will be writing about that in between.

Job opportunities

it's easier to get job opportunities in my city compared to living in a rural environment, due to the high rates of companies and industries in this city, it's also easy to excel as a self-employed, as long as you've got skills or good business set up and great customer approach. There is a high population in my city, which also means a high customer rate. If anyone complains of being hungry here, it's either the person is lazy because there is always an opportunity waiting for you to fill your hands with, there is dignity in working, as long as it's legit.

Good transport network

Although there are still some underdeveloped areas in Lagos, we still got one of the best road networks in the country, it's easier to journey from one part of Lagos to another, the disadvantage is the traffic jam we experience here, a forty-five minute journey could take two hours when stuck in traffic, no thanks to the overpopulation in the state.

Good Medical facilities

It's easier to find good medical facilities and practitioners in the city compared to the rural environment, I have had first-hand experience myself, So I can relate to it, not one doctor attending to all patients.

Good internet connection

The last time I traveled to the village, getting good network access was so devastating, before I could do anything that required network access, I had to go around searching for a network, which made me realize how much, I was enjoying staying in the city.

Notwithstanding, village life can be fun too, you know, the natural environment, forest, farmlands, gardens, etc, compared to Lagos where we have buildings and structures everywhere, there is overpopulation and pollution compared to the Village where we can breathe in the fresh air, eat
fresh food and fruits directly from the garden at the back or front of the house, which are hard to come by in the city, or very expensive to get. The cost of living in Lagos is expensive, the rents, taxes, we pay for literally everything.

So, City or Village

If asked to choose between living in my city or the village, I will choose my city because I have adapted so well to the way of life around here, and once in a while visits the village to cool off and enjoy the serene and cool environment. I'm a city girl for life.

Thank you for reading❤❤

The city is always an interesting choice for they stand to be a lot of benefits to being in the city.
But on the other hand, there are disadvantageous aspects too.

Thanks for the wonderful insight on the benefits of a city dear friend.

If we must consider all these amenities, I would always prefer the urban area to the rural area. There is nothing much in the rural areas than the natural air, tranquility, peace, clean environment, safety, natural food and fruits etc. One wouldn't be exposed to opportunities there and one would definitely be lazy apart from going to the farm.

Yeah, the city life, because there is so much opportunities out there that staying in the village can limit us.

Thanks for coming around sis.

Maybe, work in the city when you're young and healthy and retire in the rural.

That's more like it, the rural area will dull a young vibrant youth while the building cutting will drain the little energy of the old.🙂

What I like best is the numerous financial opportunities most of which you can't get in the village. As long as you have something to sell, you'll have someone to buy and so, earn. I'm also a city girl like you. 🙃🙃
Thanks for sharing friend. 🤗

The city is a nice place to stay but you see that Lagos hmmmm I don't think I can live there before of the overpopulation and the traffic problem. I only go there for holidays and go back to my state. I cannot come and die🤣🤣

Haha I know right, Lagos is not easy to live in, I guess it's because I'm used to Lagos life, even when I went to my hometown to school, I was not feeling it like being in Lagos.

Yes o it's because you are use to it.

No doubt there are many reasons why one ought to live in the urban areas than in the rural areas. Your points are valid.

I agree with you, when you are already used to a place, changing it to another place may be challenging. I love Lagos for visit. I stayed there a few years back but now am used to a more quiet city with no hurry. Haha. Nice entry. All the best to us all

Thanks dear, changing to a different location especially a rural one can be limiting, I tried it once but still the Lagos girl in me had to go back to it's craziness haha, I guess I will forever be a city girl.

Thank you for stopping by.

Yes we do, and we don't have to blame someone for the choices we make.
