The High-Risk, High-Reward World of Contact Sports

in Hive Learners2 days ago

What is the essence of sport if not for the excitement and entertainment gotten from it, especially for us the fans, sports like wrestling or boxing which are more contact sports and actually involve someone getting hurt for a winner to be pronounced have never been my thing, still, I feel their true fans gain their excitement from that very act, and the wrestlers/boxers themselves already know what they are getting into before getting themselves involved, some say they do it for the passion and others use it as a way to overcome their inner demon, as weird as it sounds, at least, they get to gain fame and wealth through such sport.

It's not even about sports alone, also in other entertainment industries like the movie industry there are also cases where the actors get hurt during the process of the movie production, they also do stunts and some other dangerous acts just to portray their art to be very realistic to their fans and viewers, the legendary Jackie Chan is one of such actors. These legends deserve so much respect for putting themselves in harm's way just to provide happiness to the world, I remember reading a documentary on how many injuries, and fractures Jackie Chan has had while making all these movies we loved watching while growing up, even till date, did you know he one fell into a coma after hitting his head on a big stone while falling off a cliff for a scene he shot in one of his movies, named Dragon head, I'm not so sure of the title, but know a dragon head was involved in that movie, he had bloodshot eyes, even bleeding out of his nose and ears, but did that stop him from shooting after waking from the coma, obviously no, meaning It is his choice to do this and not many people can be this brave, reason there are so many main actors with a second who perform the stunts.

Is there a need for more rules and regularization to prevent hurt?

I believe every sport as it now has its rules and regularization which helps keep the sportsmen in check, even the intense ones, as going against these rules would get them banned from partaking in such sport, if not, the rate of death of sportsmen would have been on the rise, putting further rules do they don't get themselves hurt would rather take away the whole fun of the sport, imagine a boxer punching Like a toddler because he doesn't want to hurt his opponent, who would want to watch such game, or probably footballers were made to not run and just catwalk to the ball's position as they pass it to one another? It will be so annoying and boring to watch, I doubt all the young ones aspiring to become footballers would still be interested, some might think these sports are all about the money involved, but the entertainment also counts. So therefore, the only rule that should apply in sports is for them not to go extreme to the extent of taking one's life, this also takes the excitement out of it, except for those weirdos out there.

The things these guys do sometimes are inevitable because they are entertaining us. They want to make us happy and go the extra mile to show how passionate they are about their profession.

It's left for us to create laws that would protect them while going about their profession. Jackie is indeed a legend, that man sustained more injury than any actor in the movie industry.

That's right, I believe they all know these and there are already set down rules.

In doing things like this, we definitely have trouble for a while. If we fall somewhere in our practice or in a match, it hurts a lot, but we are looking at our next destination. What we have to get after being successful, then forgetting that, we work hard for our game only.
