Even in Freetown, nothing is free, funny right? I wonder how some people assume that in the life we live currently, we are free and able to do whatever, if we were indeed free, then our so-called government won't be lavishing in wealth, looting the nation's wealth while the common man struggles daily in silence, they say we have freedom of speech, but what happens after the speech.
The real deal is that we aren't as free as we think we are, yea, you read that right, even in our normal daily life activity, for every good or bad thing we do there will always be a payday whether now or in the nearest future, that is why it is always preached that we live our lives the best way possible because Karma can be a bad B, pardon me, I don't want to use the full word.
I understand that the rules and laws of the nation are meant to maintain law and order so the nation doesn't become unrulable as people tend to misbehave when there is no law, still these ruling bodies still don't know when to draw the line, and the worst part is them breaking the law themselves yet no one can stand and speak against them, because the brave one's who tried ended up losing their lives, the fear of one losing his or her life has made us keep mute, thereby making us not free.
The #endsars protest comes to mind, where some brave Nigerian youth came out in their numbers to speak against our bad government and bare their mind on how crippled the state of our economy is, but how did it end up? they were shot and teargassed and I begin to wonder what truly is the meaning of freedom of speech, to make things worse, this open day killing was denied and brushed under the carpet because they hold the power and are the only ones free to do whatever they like.
freedom is the ability to make your own choices and live your life as you deem fit, without undue restriction or anyone's control. Looking at your life from childhood, have you really been free, or are we living in a state of illusion, our every move has already been dictated, did you not become whatever religion you practice today because that's what your parent wanted, for some of us, it goes as far as our course of study and whom we choose to spend the rest of our lives with, so where is the freedom, our lives has already been dictated even in the very society we live in, that's why anyone that tries to break free is considered weird or insane.
In conclusion, the question of whether we are truly free or not, is not one with a straightforward reply, although we may not be able to do whatever we like, whenever we like, we still have the power to make our choices to some extent to at least live in peace with others.
above all, our freedom is not just a state of being, but also a state of our mind. we should make a conscious effort to be aware of the factors that influence our choices, and to take responsibility for our own lives. Without any doubt, the answer to the question 'if we are really free' is a big Maybe

We must fight for our freedom but in a peaceful way, but we all have the right to be free, but also knowing that there must always be some rules that we have to follow.
I agree with fighting peacefully, but over here peace or not their unruly reaction to our fight for freedom is the same.
The thing about humans is that we would always find ways to abuse rules and laws created to ensure order, it is due to humans abusive intent that prompted the creation of laws in the first place. If we could still act this way despite the existence of laws, now imagine a society without laws at all, do you think we would be a lot better?
We are indeed free compared to other species that exist on earth, it is not laws that put us in bondage but humans and greed. Laws are created to protect our privileges and right, not to take them.
Hmm deep but true, laws are meant to bring peace but human greed put us in bondage.
