I contemplated the value of my participation in this topic for a long while, what concerns could I have that really compare to the struggles others face elsewhere? I have a lot to be grateful for, my life is safe and happy. By all accounts some would say I solely have these things because of how this country is ran... I would say it's in spite of it.
No matter what political lines you fall on in the US, chances are you're feeling pretty pissed off and worried right now. Stagnant wages, an exploding housing market, inflation, and laws that strip citizens of basic rights are just a snapshot. The police state is thriving- platforms like facebook somehow tricking people into giving all their info away for free... The collective liberty of our society is threatened by what I consider to be a very dangerous silence. I feel quite concerned about our direction.
I'm still the same punk kid at heart that I was 10 years ago, I think the establishment is a tangible nefarious force- one you can watch drudge on through C-SPAN. An assembly of stuffed suits curated carefully by super PACs and lobbyists; I do not believe this country is run with much good intentions for it's people. I can stand that if I focus really hard, that's something we can collectively fight against... However, the mindset of our fellows is the barrier to joint sucess that vexes me. The media is such a force of nature here that public opinion is easily manipulated, leading to a vast misunderstanding of government affairs. This leaves us with large groups of people who could succeed against their common enemy, if only they could escape the media narratives that pit them against each other. I know I buy into media hype too; we all are influenced to feel that everything is falling apart constantly by our news organizations. This so far has not ever been true.
So, what do I think the future holds here? Well, I think we will run into some serious resource problems, particularly because of our water practices which are absolutely unsustainable. I think a recession is getting increasingly likely, however I believe that ingenuity and community will pull us through that as it has before. Covid lockdowns and the social changes they incurred in many parts of the country have left a permanent mark. I think as a society we are turning a corner, I remain ever optimistic as a mother of two, it's best to believe in human goodness lest my heart ache.
I see more young people in my community who are involved in local volunteer groups than I once did, it's hip these days to be "woke" and some of that means that kids these days are more aware of current events. Empathy is being spotlighted in many new ways, and although I think many of us can agree that's dubious at times, it has many merits. When I watch my children play, I envision a future here that's vibrant and dynamic for them. I believe that people will lift each other up as we always have, after all we are tribal creatures that truly need one another.
my two children, who I will never get a good photo of, but who always inspire me to be optimistic.
Sometimes when you are not seeing or hearing the other countries cry, you might be thinking yours is the worst. To be sincere, I thought Nigeria was the worst not knowing that America is included. Anyways, I don't think it would be as worst as Nigeria.
Absolutely! It is easy to think things are perfect in other places, but many governments are corrupted and cause suffering to their people… however it is safe to say that I am lucky to have the problems I have here, the struggles you face in Nigeria are far greater than I can imagine I’m sure!
I think that in most countries there are people having problems that can be solved with better decisions from specific people in power. The sad thing is that there are people outside the USA who still believe that this kind of problem doesn´t exist there.
I couldn’t agree more, I think we all have the same issue, just in different degrees of severity! From the outside the US seems so utterly privileged… the victims of the corruption here aren’t just missed by foreigners, but also by their fellows who purposely turn from their plight- this erases their story very effectively!
although people from other countries think the United States is doing well but I always follow the news there almost all the time, there are so many problems that are internal and external, it's really complicated even though at first glance it looks fine, I hope life you and your two children are always fine.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment :)! It was hard to make this post because I felt silly talking about the problems in the US, when so many other countries face far more dire struggles. I’m glad I did though, it feels good to air some of these grievances out!

Its everywhere, one problem or the other that just seats like acid in our stomach. And when these things happen we wonder if our government know what's going on or they just don't care. Whatever the answer is, its still bad.
But then, like you said, we have to keep having hope for the future. If not for us then for those that are coming after us, we owe them a thriving community.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you for your comment @bruno-kema!
Very well said... a thriving community is the best form of rebellion from my point of view! I believe that when we love each other the establishment loses, because you can't monetize human decency!
The United States is everyone's dream and reading all this makes me feel like is there really a perfect place in the world?
It is very clear that every country has one shit or the other that they are dealing with, we are actually living in a messed up world.
Perfection is found in loving what is around you I think... easier said than done for most! There are fantastically wealthy people here, who spend crazy sums of money just to go camping or feel connected to the world. These things are natural and free to us poor folk, who need no guide or help to be part of the world. It is strange how problems face all people in our journey to thrive... although I sure do wish I had the problems of a wealthy American instead lol!
I find it to be a bad thing to compare experiences, and so I pushed myself to write this... but I did feel odd talking about our privileged issues in the US, when I know so many people would trade places with me... I am glad you found value in it, don't ever stop dreaming! Thank you for your comment :)
I think the photo of your kids is perfect, one seems to express the cunfoosion of our nation like "doh! What did he say?"
The other one with her hand to her face seems almost hopeless.
Both of those expressions fit me perfectly most days.
I really hate to say this, but I've about given up on ever having anything of real, good substance come out of Warshington De Cappo, (see what I did there? I'm a ♫♪Musician♫♪)
When I got my disability settlement, I seriously considered emigrating to NZ and becoming a KIWI, but they have their problems too, and the crap always seems to roll down hill from Del Cappo.
I am not HOPELESS by any means, but almost apolitical now. Prior to T-Rump I was a staunch conservative; still am, but I'm afraid the party will not ever get past the damage he has and is continuing to do.
Disclaimer; these are just my opinions.
We are from S Ga USA and one of my sisters married a Hungarian guy from Oh., moved up there and had a plethora of children.
So I am at your service. This post is

Wow, what a great comment! It is wonderful to meet you @jerrytsuseer, you seem like a fascinating man :)! Has anyone ever told you that you look a bit like Alexander Skarsgaard in your self-portrait? Reminds me of how he looks in the film Mute. What a talented drawing!
You made me laugh with the description of my children's faces, perhaps the photo was just right!
I can relate to living in a mixed batch of the feelings expressed in this photo haha
I'm basically apolitical myself as well. It can be hard to align yourself with any party these days, that's for sure! Ethical and moral lines that were once clearly defined to me have become murky. I'm sure part of that is the experience of age, but I can credit many of those dilemmas to the strange times we have had these last handful of years! I find it best to just focus in on being a helpful part of my community and raising kids that I think will be good people. I can get lost in the news cycles far too easily!
It's funny that you have family in Ohio, because I have family in GA! My uncle lives there :)
Thank you for stopping by and leaving this wonderful comment, and for the follow!
The Native Americans found out the hard way to not trust the white man's government.
