I left Brazil in 2017 with many headaches. These headaches may change but still there in Canada. Since we started to become financially independent, with a job and house, these headaches have appeared. Monthly bills cause that! We keep thinking on them because they always remind you that they exist. I had my first daughter in Brazil and we included her right away in our health insurance plan. Private health in Brazil usually is better at least in big cities like Rio de Janeiro. Also can be compared between Private and Public education there. So I had a baby and already thinking in a stab of a monthly fee for her education. Then I came to Canada.

Before starting to live in here I was very happy thinking about how I didn't need to pay any more for private health and education anymore. Well, half true. We pay taxes, so we are paying for our health and education already. Well in Brazil we also pay taxes that would go also to public health and education. But still, it didn't change much my headaches. For sure I am not paying Public + Private like I was paying in Brazil. And also I have some other concerns in here in my bills that are different from Brazil. But what about the service?
That is a debate that we usually have around here in our Brazilian community living in this cold area of the planet. We can't for example compare our Canadian public services with the private services that we were paying, especially in health. In the education area, I can see that the public schools here are equal to or even better than many private Brazilian schools. But health there are some big cons that I mentioned before here. Every family has their family doctor, which sometimes it takes some time to reach one since most cities lack of doctors with spots to receive new patients. And you are lucky if you find a doctor, stick with him even if it isn't a very good one. If you decide to leave this doctor, probably you will spend months or years until you get a new one. Difficult if you are a family with kids.
At least with private health care in Brazil, I had the option of disliking a doctor and finding second opinions. Medical doctors are humans and can make mistakes! Also, another problem is hospitals are overcrowded. Emergency rooms are tricky if there aren't enough doctors available. Depending on the day you need to wait 5 or more hours until get someone, unless you are in a very urgent care. Now we have the menace of Trump wanting to colonize Canada. If he succeeds we will go with the US healthcare system which is similar to what I was having in Brazil, but also challenging because private healthcare in the US is very expensive, you pay a plan but you still need to pay part of the treatment that you need.

So different countries different problems, public and private services have their good and bad. For now, there isn't an optimal choice, and if Trump transforms us into the 51st State, the headaches will continue in different ways. So in the end like a good friend used to say, with the government we always dive in with our heads to get into our a** .

I've always found private sector health care is better no matter where you go. Government manages to make a mess of everything, and they tend to be corrupt in every nation. How do you like the Canadian public health yourself? I've heard it both ways from those who live up North! lol
I wouldn't worry about Trump, Greenland might, but not Canada! lol

It really depends where you are... which province. Here in Alberta is it much better compared to New Brunswick for example. In New Brunswick for sure I would opt out to the public health care if possible. But in Alberta at least has fewer problems. The biggest con is that sticking with 1 doctor until something happens that suck! But in general is good in Alberta.

I had a thought of moving abroad, one of them was to Canada due to educational and health care.
Then I realized that I did not have wife and kids lol why would I bother about those two?
But still .. nothing perfect, always one part is better and another one is worse ... So rather than finding a better one, I try to outsmart the current plan
Yeah canada is good to raise kids! But not bad also if you come single :p
I can already feel the headache from the healthcare and the taxes and it's reminding me of my own headaches 🤣🤣🤣 but i guess this is why canada keeps opening positions for visa sponsorships for doctors because of the lack thereof
Bingo! You got the problem
Ohh! When you think it's better elsewhere. I'm starting to believe it's a one government order meant to impoverish the people. Because what are the odds that a supposed developed society suffers the same fate as the developing?
Maybe just less corruption in more developed countries… but still many problems.
No interior do interior é ruim.
