Work flexibility for sure gives some quality to your work. I see for example a cousin who works in a bank that she doesn't see their children since she works on-site from 7:30AM to 9PM. Also I know that she doesn't visit any doctor for years since she doesn't have time for that. I think most of the work that I had in my life I had some flexibility. Of course, we always want more, but some of these flexible rules helped me a lot to solve personal problems, including when I have kids.
My current work I have a fixed schedule from 8:30am to 4:30pm. I wish they had more flexibility for working at home since my job is mostly in front of a computer and I can have access to everything working at home. But I can't do that officially, sometimes when a kid is sick or because of the bad weather, I negotiate that option extra officially with my supervisor, which is already an advantage. However there are nice benefits, such as 2 days being taken off as personal days, which I can use to solve problems, such as problems with a car. In addition to that, I can have some hours for medical routine appointments and days off specific to kids' medical or school appointments.
These advantages are interesting and are actually benefits that give flexibility for employees. In my previous work, I had some freedom as well to do that and also work at home, but it was a more informal way. I used to make agreements with my direct supervisor and he was ok if I missed one day for a medical appointment or kids-related appointments. I just needed to warn him before and that's it. I still used to check my working days spreadsheet as a regular worked day. In Canada, that is very normal that you need to control and record your own working days and fill it with a sick day or holiday.
Back in Brazil, as a Ph.D. student and M.Sc. student, I didn't have many rights, even an official contract. My flexibility depended a lot on my superior. I was lucky that my supervisor was very calm while I was doing my tasks, but I heard of many other students who didn't have the same luck with employers demanding extra time for work for example and not being flexible with vacations. We didn't even have an official salary, it was considered a fellowship, so it was a bit gray area about our rights. At least now I see that women at least have the right of maternity leave if needed which in my time was also supervisor oral agreement dependent. However since I had a nice relationship with my supervisor, I worked mostly at home many times.
During my life, I had some interesting experiences with work flexibility, and I can't complain about them. Despite that sometimes I feel that some of the workplaces could be more flexible to some experiences, I think that it allows me a healthy relationship with my family.

No meu trabalho atual, tenho um horário fixo das 8h30 às 16h30. Gostaria que tivessem mais flexibilidade para trabalhar em casa, já que meu trabalho é principalmente na frente de um computador e posso ter acesso a tudo trabalhando em casa. Mas não posso fazer isso oficialmente, às vezes, quando uma criança está doente ou por causa do mau tempo, negocio essa opção extra oficialmente com meu supervisor, o que já é uma vantagem. No entanto, há bons benefícios, como 2 dias de folga como dias pessoais, que posso usar para resolver problemas, como problemas com um carro. Além disso, posso ter algumas horas para consultas médicas de rotina e dias de folga específicos para consultas médicas ou escolares das crianças.
Essas vantagens são interessantes e, na verdade, são benefícios que dão flexibilidade aos funcionários. No meu trabalho anterior, eu também tinha alguma liberdade para fazer isso e também trabalhar em casa, mas era uma forma mais informal. Eu costumava fazer acordos com meu supervisor direto e ele não se importava se eu faltasse um dia para uma consulta médica ou consultas relacionadas às crianças. De volta ao Brasil, como estudante de doutorado e mestrado, eu não tinha muitos direitos, nem mesmo um contrato oficial. Minha flexibilidade dependia muito do meu superior. Tive sorte que meu supervisor estava muito calmo enquanto eu fazia minhas tarefas, mas ouvi falar de muitos outros alunos que não tiveram a mesma sorte com empregadores exigindo tempo extra para o trabalho, por exemplo, e não sendo flexíveis com férias. Nós nem tínhamos um salário oficial, era considerado uma bolsa, então era uma área um pouco cinzenta sobre nossos direitos. Pelo menos agora vejo que as mulheres têm pelo menos o direito de licença-maternidade, se necessário, o que na minha época também dependia do acordo verbal do supervisor. No entanto, como eu tinha um bom relacionamento com meu supervisor, trabalhei principalmente em casa muitas vezes.
Durante minha vida, tive algumas experiências interessantes com flexibilidade de trabalho, e não posso reclamar delas. Apesar de às vezes sentir que alguns locais de trabalho poderiam ser mais flexíveis para algumas experiências, acho que isso me permite um relacionamento saudável com minha família.

My sister is a perfect example of that banker, she works even on weekends, she closes late and resumes early, the husband had to tell her to quit in other to have quality time with her family, I understand well about the banker, it is always good to have a proper planning of your schedule.
You are correct it is difficult but one of the parents always needs to be more flexible than the other to deal with kids!

Aqui no Brasil também tem algumas empresas que trabalham com um horário fixo e o restante da carga flexível ajustar de acordo com a pessoa. Não é meu caso, eu tenho horário fixo, mas em três turnos, o que me permite decidir em que momento estou no trabalho.

Work flexibility is a huge plus and a bonus to attract employees in my experience. And a happy employee tends to do much better work, having been an employer myself for many years.

7:30-9pm I can't even begin to imagine. This kind of work will always drain you, by the time you get home you won't even have time to spend with your family. You simply want to sleep and rest for the next day.
It's kind of painful and sad because the job is really important to take care of the family, but then not spending much time with the family you're working so hard for.
What a lot of people go through in the name of work is really crazy. But since it's legal, what can we do?😪
