WHY I WON'T CHOOSE ENGINEERING.

in Hive Learnerslast year

Talking about a profession I wouldn't want to do, firstly, I will like to define what a profession is.

Profession according to the English oxford dictionary is" an occupation, a trade, a craft, or an activity in which one has a professed expertise in a particular area."

It is also said to be a job, especially one requiring a high level of skill or training.

I believe a profession should be something you love to do and most important you enjoy doing, but in today's world, especially in my country Nigeria, a lot of people get into professions for different reasons.

Some get in a profession simply because of the money or material benefits, others because they found themselves in that field either by chance or as a result of following friends or loved one, for others it's simply because their parents forced them into a particular filed of study.

It is important to choose a profession that you love doing and feel comfortable with regardless of what people think or say about such a profession, but I'll use this medium to respond to the hive learners topic for week 81,ep1, on the topic * what's that one profession that you'll never do, no matter how attractive the pay is...

Concerning the part of the topic that asked if I had a bad experience in the past, in my case it's absolutely not like that, because I've never learnt anything about engineering, it's just something I don't like, just looking at it from afar😆, if it doesn't sound weird.

A profession I will not venture into regardless of the payment, it's definitely engineering.

Someone might want to know why, I just don't find it interesting, it seems like a very boring course and then you have to struggle with physics and chemistry only for you to end up repairing like a workman.

I know we have different types of engineers but the one I detest the most is mechanical engineer, especially coupled with the fact that Nigerian Universities are more theoretical than practical. So in most cases those that study only in school without learning the apprenticeship end up not been able to function in the labour market.

Should I dive a little into other aspects, like the electrical engineering, most graduates of the course are even afraid to change a fuse, tell me how they will be able to handle sockets.

Now let's come to their uniforms 😂, I just don't like the look, especially when they are at work, most of them look dirty, unlike the so called beautiful professions.

These people spend five years or more in the higher institution, and yet getting a job is usually difficult, though this applies to other courses as well in my country Nigeria, but courses like Nursing can always practice on their own.

Even Education courses will always get a job either private or public, you can even decide to take personal tutorials, lawyers can even go into writing of articles and journals and so on.

But imagine an engineer in other fields it will be difficult for them to fit in. And yet most of them are not competent in their own field.

Another thing I don't like about the profession is the fact that, the few one's that can boast about their capabilities in their filed, end up
Exploiting the public, for instance.
You have a little leakage in your oil and the engineer says your engine is spoilt, simply because he feels you don't know nothing about cars.

Only for you to end up fixing it at a very cheap price from another mechanical engineer. And then it develop another issue in the next few days.

Another major reason I won't delve into that profession is because of how hectic it is, it's both time and energy consuming.
Thanks for reading 😀 my response to hive learners on week81ep1's topic.Italic
