All these multi billion dollar companies like Meta, X and other social platform do sell data and when we user agree with their terms and agreements to use the app, we're giving them permission to sell the data and more.
It is a serious topic mostly being ignored but I'll share why I'm worried about my data on internet and way to ensure they don't get more than they should.
Data on the internet: Private or Public?
Everyone deserves privacy and there's been plenty of class action suit on the matter that companies sells data, privacy related.
Recently I came to know that Netflix reads users (fb, insta ~ meta) inbox messages as meta sold the right to them on X.
It is true to some extent but the actual fact is meta only integrated sending message from Netflix directly so people can ask each other about movies they watch and they claim they don't read inbox and it's end to end encrypted.
We all know how whatsapp and these social media platforms claims to not read inbox but they actually do that and it's very often.
They literally watch our inbox

I still remember about some years ago there was this Snapchat user who was on airline and while he was in plane, he sent text through Snapchat that he's going to blow the plan off.
And minutes later a jet was flying and charged a heavy fine on that kind for joking about that.
The fact that they claim we don't read inbox, yet they do and make sense if it's for security reasons but other than that selling these data is something I'm against.
Data should be private
In this era being anonymous makes more sense, not everyone want to reveal everything about them on the internet.
There's a data that should be online and there's some personal data that should be forever kept offline like I won't be doxxing my parents, brothers or cousins etc in crypto or internet.

I don't want to do kyc to use an exchange, data about wealth and such thing looks better when they're private.
I don't trust these centralized platforms like Facebook etc to keep my data private, they show ads based on my data.. they know exactly what I'm thinking to purchase online and than I see same ads and list goes on which is something scary and that's one reason I use web 2.0 rarely.
Wrapping Up...
In the end I think you all have seen targeted ads on your screen like you're thinking to buy a mobile and next minute they'll show you a ad for mobile.
It all happens because they're collecting data and it's not private at all, it's being sold, shared for their own benefits.
I hope you guys have noticed that too and would love to know what do you think about it in the comments.

Whether private or public, one of the things I have come to discover is any data that has been able to find it's way to the internet is no more private or even safe
yea, it's a fact.

I think the whole idea behind end to end encryption on most of these web2 platforms is just a facade, there's always backdoors to read through personal and private messages of its users. What's really worrisome is they sell this data to all kinds of institutions who use it for different kinds of reasons.
Yea, that's true.
A backdoor they hide from us and pretend it doesn't exist. !LOL
only if it Gets leak, the amount of lawsuit action they'll be is going to a mess which is something I believe will happen.

I think so too. Eventually, the backdoor will be exploited even by those who didn't create it in the first place. then, the floodgates will open.
