Today’s topic is indeed sad, but it reflects the reality of our times. No matter how much we try, we cannot hide from it. 'The Effect of Stigma' is a topic that may have affected each one of us at some point in life.

It’s not necessarily about your appearance alone. Stigma can arise from any incident in our lives where we had to face harassment because of others, and we were unable to do anything about it. I’ve had many such experiences in my life, and sadly, most of them came from my own loved ones. Because of who they were to me, I couldn’t stand up against them or speak out.

I don’t want to talk about these things today. I’m already feeling very down because of everything that’s happening in Gaza. I don’t want to feel even more sad.

There was someone I knew in real life who had white marks on their face. Because of that, people looked at them with such disgust and treated them as if they were inferior. That’s all I know about that person. But a few months ago, I was watching an interview on TV. It was about a person whose face was half normal, and the other half was affected due to some natural cause.

In that interview, the person was sharing the challenges they faced in life. They said that because of the way their face looked, even their own family didn’t treat them well and eventually threw them out of the house. What could be sadder for a person than being thrown out of their own home by their own family, just because they don’t look ‘normal’?

He was crying during the interview while sharing his story, and he asked us a question: Did he make himself this way? Wasn’t he created by the same God who created all of us? Isn’t he also His creation? Then why do people treat him like this? Does he really deserve to be treated that way?

I humbly request all those who feel this way — please, never consider yourselves less than anyone else. You are just as normal as the rest of us, and you have every right to live with dignity. You have no reason to feel ashamed. If someone harasses or mistreats you, ignore them and leave it to your Lord. He will surely hold them accountable for their actions on the Day of Judgment — and He is the best in taking account. Just stay positive and keep faith.
