The holidays, although short, are enjoyable for most people. A time of joy and celebration where people take a break from months of work, and go on vacations to cool and awesome places to rest and unwind and return stronger. But, soon enough, they will have to go back to their daily routine. Nothing lasts forever, and the same thing applies to the holidays. Edition one of Hive the learners prompts asks when our holidays end, when we return to our daily routine, and whether it is something we look forward to. As much as people enjoy their daily routine, I'm sure not so many people would look forward to their holidays coming to an end. Who would want to choose quality rest and enjoyment over stressful daily routines which might involve being stuck at a desk from morning till evening?
Growing up, I never looked forward to the holidays ending. I remember my first year in high school- the last day of school. Usually, the last day of school is when we collect our results (report cards). That day was always one of my happiest because I knew it marked the beginning of the holidays- a time when I wouldn't have to wake up by 8am to go to school and return by 5pm. My least favorite aspect of school was assignments from different teachers. Also, reading in preparation for exams. I liked good grades, so I always put in my best. On the last day of school, I was always filled with glee knowing that the next couple of weeks would be all about fun. However, as the holiday season drew to a close, the atmosphere changed and I was reminded of school. Gradually, the excitement faded from my face and the smile was completely gone when we resumed classes.
Now that I am in university, things are different. Although lecturers won’t beat you if you don’t submit assignments, things are still way complicated. My holiday season started on the 20th of December. Meaning, I have been enjoying it for the past 10 days. I wouldn't call it “enjoyment,” but it is way better than my daily routine. I'm not looking forward to returning to my daily routine and I'm sure if you were in my shoes, you'd feel the same. This is because my daily routine is extremely stressful and demanding. Sometimes, I feel like running to the top of the mountain and screaming my lungs out or just going to a swimming pool and staying in the water for hours. I'll give you a glimpse of my daily routine;
Every day, I wake up very early to prepare for school. Monday mornings are usually the worst. That is because Monday classes start at 8am. The lecturer is a very strict type- once you are a minute late, you won’t be allowed to enter the class. Most times, I go to school without eating anything. Cooking when your class is at 8 am is a very difficult thing to do. My first class ends at 10 am, and the next one begins right after. Most times, I don’t eat until I get back to my house around 3pm, and sometimes, I fill my stomach with junk food. Afternoon classes are the worst- trekking to school under the scorching sun is one of the worst punishments ever. I lost count of the number of times I have experienced hyperpigmentation. To worsen the situation, after a long day of school, you come back to start cooking- sometimes when I do not have the strength to cook, I buy food outside.
Why would I look forward to my daily routine when I get to rest whenever I feel like it? It feels good to sleep in and not think about classes. Ever since this holiday started, I have been making good use of it to the fullest. If I were to choose between my daily routine and the holidays, I would choose the holidays over and over again. Sadly, this beautiful season is coming to an end. My holidays end on the 12th of January, 2025. Exams start the next day. While I prefer this season, I am not entirely sad that the holiday is coming to an end. I would really love to get my exams done with.

Good morning, Favey. 🤗
Reading through this, it felt like you could see through me to say so many things that I didn’t say. I love holidays too and I don’t want then to end but for this particular holiday coming to an end, I’m not sad about it too because I want to get this exam over and done with.
Thank you so much for sharing, Evol. 🥰❤️

Hyperpigmentation is an illness of almost every light-skinned student, and who would choose stress over rest? Sorry sha, cos you don't have a choice but to start packing your bags for the next Monday class on resumption. Lol.
I hate it when people go “Ahh! Justfavour, you have gotten darker now oo. What happened?” What happened? Can’t you see that the sun almost finished me?
Funny thing. I remember my complexion going from brown to bronze at every period in school. Bronze because that's how it looked like for real. But I think you can consider wearing sunscreen now. There are really good ones you can get. Hopefully, you won't forget to use it on your way out of the house every day. Lol.
