The Anonymous Angel: A Stranger’s Kindness

in Hive Learnersyesterday

Sometimes, we receive kindness from people from whom we least expect it. People out of nowhere do beautiful things for us- things that those close to us would never do. When things like this happen, it reminds us that there are still good people in the world. It can be little acts of kindness like offering a helping hand, listening without judging, or putting a smile on our faces. I find it really amusing when strangers or people I barely know do something nice for me. I mean, “We are not even close and you did something nice for me. You sacrificed your time and effort for someone you barely know or don’t even know at all?” That's what good people do. Today’s edition of Hive Learner’s prompts is all about generosity and kindness from unexpected places and people. Have you ever received an act of kindness from someone or a place you never expected it? Also, have you ever been treated badly by a person you considered nice?

AN UNEXPECTED ACT OF KINDNESS

In my final year in high school, I fell terribly ill. I couldn't eat and struggled to drink anything for more than one week. To make matters worse, it was during my JAMB examination period. JAMB exam is a national exam that high school students must take to gain admission into a university. I wanted a very high score so I could pursue my dream course. Unfortunately, I stressed myself too hard and fell ill. Since my mom is a nurse and we had a mini hospital in our home, I was treated there. I couldn't read a thing during this period, and even when I tried, my parents and siblings reminded me that my health mattered most.

The D-Day came and I hadn't gotten better at all. Still, I didn't want to miss the exam, as missing the exam would mean waiting an extra year for the next exam. My parents and siblings urged me to stay home and rest, but I didn't listen to them. When my mom saw that she couldn't convince me, she accepted defeat and took me to the exam hall. Inside the exam hall, my eyes were blurry, my hands were shaking, my heart was pumping really fast and I was sweating profusely. When I saw that I couldn't take it any longer, I submitted without completing the exam and rushed out of the hall. As soon as I got out, I fell to the ground.

My mom and a man I’d never seen in my life rushed over to help me. I couldn't walk and couldn't even feel my legs. I was so sick that I struggled to breathe. The unknown man literally carried me in his hands and took me to a place where I could rest. This man could have easily ignored me. I wasn't his friend, child, or anyone close to him at all, but he still did something nice for me. After resting for about an hour, I had little strength to stand.

Unfair Treatment

Just as we have good people who go around doing good and putting smiles on faces, we also have people whose main goal in life is to make life miserable for others. They find joy in hurting people.

In my second year at the university, I had been hearing great rumors about a lecturer. People claimed he was the best lecturer in my faculty and that no one came close. I'd seen him a couple of times and wished that one day, I’d sit in his class and learn from him. Lo and behold, when I got to my third year, this lecturer was one of the lecturers teaching a course. I was really happy when I got to know that my favorite lecturer whom I'd been admiring for a long time would finally be teaching us. I remember his first class like it happened yesterday- it was a Monday morning. He walked majestically into our class. His presence commanded attention. He exuded an aura that silenced the whole class.

Indeed, he met my expectations. Unlike every other lecturer, he hit the nail on the head and taught from an interesting perspective- a unique one. One thing I didn't see coming was his anger issues- he would get angry over the slightest things, and use foul language. He even uses the F word on us like it meant nothing to him. In one of his classes, he asked the class a question, people were too tense and scared so no one raised their hands to answer. Immediately, he walked out of the class. He punished us by giving us an assignment. He calls it “a useless assignment”. We had to read a complete book and answer questions on it. To worsen it, he gave us just 12 hours to do that.

In summary, appreciate those who show acts of kindness to you, especially when it comes from strangers. People like that are rare gems. Also, just because you are in a position of power doesn't mean you should use it to hurt others.

Thanks for reading.

Humans are unique and can be a blessing to us or the opposite depending on their traits, just like the strange man who singlehandedly carried you to a place to rest after fainting outside the exam hall, it shows good people still exist.

And for the other man, your lecturer who treated you guys anyhow and even used the F word, I'm shocked, I guess everyone has the downside, despite how good he's in lecturing, it's spoilt by his anger issues.

Hello, Sir Vick.
Yes, God bless that man. He is indeed a very good person.
About my lecturer, he is something else.😂 He is very good; the best lecturer in my faculty. But he curses a lot and his anger issues is on another level. God help him.

Thanks for stopping by, Sir.

Omo I can only imagine you, I imagine being that good and ruin it with that base attitude...

I wonder how you guys did the assignment, because Omo one entire book for just 12 hours, I can't relate, especially when questions will be asked on it.

You're welcome.

We came together and sorted it out. It wasn’t easy at all.

Hello, love. 🌹

Just like you, I find people who go out of their way for others really amusing because sometimes I try to put myself in their place and I realize that I won’t do that if I was in their place.

Indeed, good people exist and they help us see reasons to also reciprocate such acts to others.

As for that your lecturer, well, I think he might not be receiving enough love and kindness from others so he is struggling to know why he needs to be kind to others. If not, I really don’t see the reason for him treating students that way.

I love how you concluded, that’s just it. Thanks for sharing, love. ❤️

We have been twinning too much lately.😂😂 I really admire people who go the extra mile to help others. It is really beautiful.

About my lecturer, I don’t want to be too judgy. But maybe he had a bad childhood or something. He is smart book wise, but he is spoiling it with his anger issues. So sad.

Thanks for stopping by, love.❤️

It’s my pleasure, love. 🌹

Sometimes we don't realize that there are foreigners who offer their services if we need them, these small things we need to appreciate, because they don't know us at all and want to petrify us, we should be grateful.

Oh no! That was really unexpected from the lecturer that you'd always admire before then, too bad he has that side of him.
You're blessed to have good people still, around you. That's what matters more.

Some humans are Angels in human form and when I met these kind of people in my life, I hold them tightly...ur first experience is a lesson that we can show kindness to people we don't know. It doesn't matter as long as we can do that

The lecturer needs to be called inorder..what nonsense

That was so kind of the man that helped carried you together with your mom. But that was too risky for you to go to write the exams. What if something bad happened that day? Thank God it wasn't that bad

It's usually the most surprising to receive gifts from people we least expect and it feels so good, it feels like I have a worth or importance that another person recognizes and appreciate..
And when the people that you expect more from gives you less, you feel very disappointed and sad
