The holidays are coming to an end, and for me, that means it’s almost time to head back to school. Officially, we’re supposed to resume on Monday, January 6th, but honestly, I’m not sure I’ll be going back that day. I still want to enjoy a bit more time at home with my family. Plus, there are a few things I haven’t sorted out yet, so I’ll probably end up returning later in the week.
My holiday hasn’t been the most exciting, to be honest. It’s been quiet and i have just being indoor most of the time, but I’ve still enjoyed it in its own way. One thing I’ve loved is not having to spend so much money like I do when I’m at school. I don’t have to waste money on cabs to get to class or buy overpriced meals from the school cafetaria or campus vendors. Being home is cheaper, and I get to eat proper meals—nothing actually beats that.
What I’ve really appreciated about the holidays, is the time to rest and just be in my own space. At school, that’s nearly impossible because I sharel room with four guys who are, let’s just say, a handful. They’re loud, chaotic, and always up to something. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fun to be around sometimes, but it can be draining when all you want is a bit of quiet. You can't actually get that whenever you are around them but since i have being at home, I’ve had time to think, reflect, and have just had some time and space to myself which is something I’ve really missed.
But, of course, the thought of going back to school comes with a lot of stress. First, there is the issue of packing , washing my clothes and just having to buy alot of foodstuffs to take back to school. Then there’s the journey. It’s about four hours from my house to school, and it’s not a straightforward trip. I have to make a few stops, switch buses, and deal with all the stress that comes with carrying my luggages.
Asides that, there’s the whole routine of settling back into the hostel—unpacking, organizing, and getting used to the noise and chaos again and as for attending lectures. I am always having classes from from Monday to Friday. Also, my school is owned by the baptist so even on Sundays you must be in church or you will ready to face the consequences. Honestly, it can be very stressful and quite exhausting at times that if I had the choice to skip a few classes, I definitely would. But unfortunately, there’s no avoiding it.
That said, it’s not all that bad. I’m actually looking forward to seeing my classmates again. I’ve missed the random banter, the jokes, and the group discussions that somehow always end up off topic . School can actually be very stressful, but moments like these make it quite bearable and exciting for me.
The activity i have actually missed the most is the football matches. Playing football with my friends is one of the highlights of being on campus for me. There is no much fun to be had in my school so just being on the field, running around, and competing with my other mates is what makes me forget about all the stress. This is actually one of the major things that keeps me sane during the semester.
Also, I am a bit excited about the fact that unlike other students i won't be having any exams until March. With this, i can atleast have more time to prepare for the exams. Infact, that has made my holidays a bit more enjoyable since i don't have to be worried and pressured about the constant feeling of getting caught up with exams immediately after resuming back to school.
So while I’m not really happy and eager to go back to school, I’m still trying to focus on the good parts, the holidays have been quite nice, but then it’s time to get back to reality—and hopefully, the semester comes with success, more fun and excitement.
