Nowadays, it almost feels like raising a discussion about weight is an immoral and blasphemous thing to do. I see why it's that way, especially at this time and day when really weird things make it to the trading page of several social media outlets. However, I'm allowed to talk about my weight and my preference for how I want my physique to be, right?
With that in mind, I've got to say this and I hope I say it right;
I don't like to fool myself about what I'm attracted to because I know it will lead to a major issue down the road.
I like to feel lightweighted, athletic and flexible. That's how I like to keep my body for several feel-good reasons and for some health benefits which I attach to having a body like that. I know that's how I want to see myself in the mirror whenever I face one... A body that's in good shape, by my standard.
I don't particularly make bones about how others choose to keep their body, however, I know I can be hard on myself and I do that even with my physical appearance. So, whenever I feel like I've gained a fair bit of weight, the next thing on my mind is to work towards getting back in shape.
I know what I want for my body and it has taken a lot of effort, discipline and persistence to maintain this body type till this very moment. I don't particularly freak out when I lose too much weight. I wouldn't mind that at all. But, once I feel like I've gained a little too much weight, I consciously make an effort to lose that gradually and healthily.
The question is;
What do I do to maintain my body type and avoid gaining too much weight without negatively affecting my health?
1. I engage in regular physical activities.
This is a very common approach to take when you are trying to maintain a particular body type, but some people shy away from it because it's not an easy route to take. However, I know it's quite effective and takes a lot of discipline to do a couple of physical workouts.
For me, I prefer to do mild workouts and a couple of outdoors once in a while. I've noticed that my body responds well to these, so I try to not overdo my workout to avoid being too muscular.
2. I don't smoke, drink or take weight loss drugs.
Smoking and staying away from alcohol is something many people find hard to do, but I've never tried smoking or taking alcohol. So, that's probably why it's a lot easier for me to stay away from them compared to someone that has already given it a try.
As for drugs, I've heard of some drugs which people take to maintain a particular body type. However, I've never been a fan of drugs. I don't take any weight loss drugs, whatsoever.
3. I'm mindful of my eating frequency.
I won't particularly boast about the kinda food I eat. I don't think I eat a balanced diet as much as supposed. Instead, what I do with my meals is that I make sure I eat only when I need to do so. I don't just wake up and get to breakfast, 'just because it's breakfast time'. Nope. I live alone and the earliest I eat my first meal of each day is around 11am. I only eat earlier when I entertain visitors at home.
Somehow, I've noticed that starving myself in the early hours of each and taking water instead of a proper meal helps me to stay agile and focused on my task for the day. It also helps me to be in the right shape. The type I love to see in a mirror.
The series of things I currently do came as a result of the trials and errors I did in the past. So, the ones I highlighted are structured for me and I'm not speaking as an expert in maintaining body weight. However, feel free to try whatever is best in maintaining any body type that suits your taste.
For those who have a sorta healthy weight loss routine, feel free to share those in the comment section of this post. I want to see what I'm missing.
