One of the things I find so interesting about travelling via public transportation is that you are all in on it. You don't just know what to expect and you have no clue about something as simple as who's going to sit beside you. I've been on transit to a very long distant place and the passenger sitting beside me turned the trip into an eating adventure. Haha. She was buying anything and everything she could lay eyes on.
What can I do? At least, she was spending her money. Not mine. Also, she wasn't causing any harm to me by doing that. Haha. I've also been in the worst situations where I had to sit beside passengers who made the journey a living hell.
Aside from passengers, you can also run into some interesting experiences while travelling via public transport due to Drivers. I don't enjoy it when a driver gets distracted when he's handling the wheel. Now, imagine what would be the case if the driver were the one distracting himself. Haha. It's never a good experience.
We also have some external factors like excessive disturbance by our Armed forces. Even while I was travelling last weekend, we got a whole lot of this and it was very frustrating because I was on a journey that approximately lasts for 12-15 hours. Nigerian roads make things worse, especially during the rainy season.
You get the gist, right?
Now, let's talk about one of my most memorable travelling experiences with public transport.
I wish it could be a happy tale, but it wasn't exactly like that. It was rather a bittersweet experience which started from the moment I decided to travel from the Eastern part of Nigeria to the Northern part of the country via a luxurious bus.
That's the exact bus I boarded for the journey.
This was in the first quarter of 2020 when I was called to serve my Country in the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC). I knew this would unavoidably be a night journey. I didn't have any problem with that. I came by 9am to buy my travel ticket and the departure time was set at 4pm. It was a trip from Onitsha to Plateau State so we estimated that I would get to my location by 10am the next day.
Working with that estimation was the first mistake we made because the bus which was supposed to leave Onitsha by 4pm was still at the Park by 8pm. Haha. It delayed for 5 hours before finally getting started. As if that wasn't enough delay, we got to realize that the bus was faulty. We had to stop at several areas during the journey and seek the services of Electricians, Mechanics, Vulcanizers... Name it!
Whenever it stops like that, even in the middle of the night, some passengers choose to step down and flex their leg muscles while others were too pissed to even step out of their seats 😂. I'm laughing right now but, boyyyyy... I was so fed up with that journey. Haha. I was getting so many calls from family to know how far we've gone. I couldn't lie about the situation so, I repeatedly had to say the truth about the messed up happenstances we were dealing with.
At some point, we got tipped off about a robbery that was going on some kilometres ahead. Our driver and so many other drivers had to pack their vehicles in the nearest military checkpoint until we started seeing other vehicles that came from the opposite lane. Throughout the time this stuff was happening, I was no longer surprised by anything. Seriously, I was ready for the worst. Like, even if we spend 3 days travelling and the driver decides to turn the bus and take us back to where the journey started, I wouldn't even be surprised by that.
I remember having to take out my toothbrush and toothpaste the next morning to brush my teeth before getting something to eat from a roadside vendor when our bus parked there for folks to eat breakfast.
At the moment, whenever I see a luxurious bus, the whole incident that happened on that travel flashes into my mind, immediately. Haha. You would think I would say some poetic stuff like; "I won't enter a luxurious bus again", but that's far from the resolution I made. As far as I'm concerned, I'm genuinely looking forward to my next travelling experience with a luxurious bus. Haha. I'm ready for all the drama that comes with it.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.

When I was reading about your journey, I felt very scared because you experienced many things which were unexpected for you, but whatever happened, you reached home safely in the end, this is very big. The thing is and I feel that this travel experience must have taught you a lot and whenever you travel or do any travel in future, you must have got a good idea of the precautions that need to be taken.
Brother... The journey was a very scary one and I'm grateful to God that we ended our journey in peace. A lot of things could have went wrong but the worst that happened was the delay in the journey.
At the moment, the whole incident now feels like an interesting experience and there was so much to learn from it.
😂😂😂
It's funny how you just accepted the situation without struggle.
Public transportation comes with a lot.
I don't like night journey ahhhh, I am that kind of lady that can't deal with night travel.
I love brightness and daylight, so please no night travel.
Public transportation is my all time travel and I accept all the dramas.
Though sometimes I pray to sit close to a cool lady or a handsome cool guy.
Most times to sit with a cool driver in front.
These makes the journey more pleasant and fun, especially for long hours travels.
That's the case oOoOO. When all those stuff were happening, I couldn't help it anymore. Also, nagging about the situation wasn't looking like a helpful idea. I just paused instead and decided to accept whatever happens as part of the adventure 😂.
That's cool.
I know I won't.
I will just be panicking as if my life depends on it🤣🤣

Most experiences people told me about these luxurious buses that travel inter-state are not so good, let's say 50% good.
There's always one issue or more with these buses and aside the fact that vehicles can develop fault suddenly, the drivers also know that their bus isn't so healthy for such long journey. I'm glad you all made it safely.
That's a fact oOoOO. These drivers know that their bus is messed up, yet they being it into a long distance journey only to give travellers a very troubling experience.
It's not even funny how these things has become a norm. It's such a shame that nothing is being done about this.
It saddens my heart each time I see a reoccurrence of really bad things becoming norms in our society.

I guess too much movies you've seen is what is giving you mind, lol.
Well, I've never travelled for more than within a day, lol what am I saying?😂.
Your experience is one that I never wish to have but really these kind of things can be quite entertaining sometimes especially when you don't fall into problem
Haha... Hope is getting confused oOoOO. You don't want night journey, but you still crave the experience 😂😂.
Don't worry. When you are going for service, get ready to serve your country in the border that separates Nigeria from one other African country 😂.
I'm not actually saying I want such experience, I was actually referring to you, lol. If I want something like that I'd go and see movies, hehe
Until then, we will cross that bridge

Nigerian buses are something else. From the very start, the journey was delayed for 4 hours and when you guys finally set off, the bus kept breaking down. This is just enough reason for one to be prepared for more surprises 🤣.

😂😂😂... That journey was no joke oOoOO. It got to a point where people couldn't complain anymore. Haha. Whatever comes, we just accept it.

Is funny to know you still want to go through this public transport drama again hahaha. Is quite unfortunate how people had to go through such stress after paying much . Sorry for the trouble, for me I pray never to experience that again. Nice piece 👍
This travel experience is a hard one to embrace. It's even worse when you are going to a place for the very first time. It was a scary trip, but it's now something I look back on with an adventurous eye. Haha
Yeah...is nice to know you are over it

Hehehe. You get mind oo but what would I do? The Mercedes Benz I took to camp last week took off from the park at 11 am after sitting for 5 hours at the park for other passengers. We arrived camp in Kebbi state at 1 am the next day. Though it was fun but it was a stressful journey. I am already thinking of how to go back now 😂
I popped in through #dreemport
Haha... Are you planning to go back any time soon? Haha. Princess, Congratulations oOoOO. But there is no coming back until you complete your 1 year stay in Kebbi. Haha.
Haaa. Just kukuma kill me 🤣🤣 I want to redeploy oo. I can't cope here at all.

NYSC journey is part of experience an average Nigeria youth will surely have in mind. I hope to also board luxurious bus one day on a night journey to experience the drama it entails.
Yes oOoOO. NYSC holds bags of experience for folks and it's almost certain that each of us would have fabulous NYSC tales to tell. Haha.
I hope you get to experience being on a Night Journey while travelling with a luxurious bus. Haha.
I hope so🤣🤣
