MAN PLAY GOD

in Hive Learners3 days ago

Sometimes we say life is unfair, but truth be told, it's we humans that have made it so. We say the system is broken, but truth be told, the system is a collective representation of our individual personalities. We say life is cruel, but the truth is, 80% of the time that cruelty comes from us more than it comes from nature. Growing up I've always heard the phrase “thank God man isn't God” and when I see some people's actions, including mine, I am grateful for that fact. I see what a lot of people in power do, and to be honest it's disheartening to watch what someone with little power would do to a fellow human because they know they will get away with it. Some do it for political ambition, others do it for other ambitions that only benefit them which shows that when such a thing occurs, it's mostly out of selfishness.

Three years ago, a lady that was in my department before I dropped out had already finished her final year exams and was in the midst of working towards going for her NYSC. In the process she would need to do her final clearance of which would be done by the school's director himself. He's a very proud and diabolic fellow that sees everything as a threat. She entered his office for her clearance and he saw one of her receipts didn't match with her name. In the process of her trying to explain, he sent her out of his office. The lady seeing the situation cried to the director's wife hoping she could plead with her husband because she was coming from another state in western Nigeria, while my school was located in the south.

On reaching the office again with the wife trying to explain her situation plus the reason that she was getting married that weekend and was even the best graduating student that year, the director told her to come over with her files to have a look at the receipt again, only for him to tear all the receipts in her file which contained the original receipt of all her school transactions from year one to final year. This made the lady give up on going for service because now there was no proof of her ever going to school plus there was nothing she could do to a man who had power in the school plus connections in the state. Even his wife was speechless from what her husband did that day.

Now tell me if that kind of person were to own the water people had access to in the state, a lot of people would die of taste because he doesn't give a damn about them. The government isn't that good, but I will prefer them to own the basic amenities of life instead of giving the ownership to a single person. I will always prefer an unkept road that was abandoned because the government is refusing to maintain it, to one that is very good but only accessible to certain individuals. We see how people in power treat people in higher institutions in Nigeria, a lecturer will blackmail a student to do their bidding knowing they can ensure that the student has an extra year. What do you think they will do if they control the basic amenities of life? I know there are good people, but I don't like to take chances.

I agree with you that there are good people, but unfortunately money often ends up making people fall into temptation. We shouldn't let things go in this direction of someone owning everything, but rather find a way for everyone to have access to basic services and items for a good quality of life, such as: water, roads, energy.

I agree with you about someone owning something, that's very dangerous. But when you're a company and there are several companies providing the same service, things work out well for people, because there's competition, quality services and cheaper prices. I hate politicians, the government, but as you said this system is a reflection of us, unfortunately it reflects the collective feeling of the majority, most people are corrupt and greedy and just want things to be easy.
