Been to Qatar?

Hello everyone!

I didn’t really know much about the country called Qatar until the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held there. Being a big lover of such tournaments, I always watch beyond just the football matches—everything about the tournament interests me so much, from facts about the country, the stadiums, the lifestyle, and the camping grounds of the various qualified teams.

The hashtag #Qatar2022 was massive on the internet, and it made me navigate a lot and learn new things about the country. Qatar is among the richest countries in the world and also among the safest. This somehow sounded strange to me because it seems almost impossible to have these two qualities in one country. I have always imagined and compared it with my country. Qatar feels like heaven on earth because I can’t imagine living comfortably in terms of wealth and still having no troubles about security—no armed robbers breaking into your house, no fear of getting kidnapped, or even having to fast and pray for 24 hours before embarking on a journey. Life is really good there; those citizens must be enjoying a much better life!

Of course, I saw the amenities of the country during the World Cup. Imagine—they had air conditioners installed in their football stadiums! This is not just a stadium with a 1,000-seating capacity, no—this is a stadium with over 100,000 seats. That was my first time hearing about and seeing such a thing. They also have the best airline in the world. Oh my goodness! Guess what? This country is not even close to the population of my country. It is much less populated, and how they have managed to maintain that must be applauded.

Two weeks ago, one of the ‘uncles’ I have in this city where I reside brought a phone to me to help him with some settings and register it on WhatsApp. The phone is a Huawei product, and when I asked where he got it from because phones like that are no longer common in Nigeria, he said it was sent from Doha. Immediately, my brain registered that as Qatar! I wanted to ask if they could help relocate me to Qatar since I’m close to the family, but that would be asking too much. Lol.

Qatar is one country I have been wishing to live in, just to experience the soft kind of lifestyle they enjoy there—at least to taste heaven on earth before leaving for heaven on my final day. Lol.

But there’s one thing I still frown at in the country, and that’s the fact that men outnumber women there. I don’t know how the men are coping with such a lifestyle, especially when it comes to marriage and settling down. It must be very hard to find a wife because it seems the ladies would be betrothed from birth since they are so few. In other words, they would be rushed. Over here in Nigeria, we are a largely populated country, yet a man still finds it hard to pick a ‘responsible’ wife to marry—how much more in a place where women are very few? Except, of course, the few women there are all responsible. Lol.

Thanks for reading.
