Hello everyone!
As funny as the topic of this prompt sounds—asking whether it would be a good idea to introduce learning about social media into the school curriculum—it is actually a great idea. Social media has become one of the major ways people earn a living today. However, school curriculums, especially in my part of the world, are mainly focused on subjects that are not always relevant to real-life situations. These subjects are included in the name of being broad in all areas, yet they often neglect to address crucial aspects of life that could help solve real-world problems.
Before diving into how social media has posed some dangers to us—and how teaching it in schools could help structure and correct us—it is also important to highlight how beneficial this education would be. Teaching about social media in schools would go a long way in ensuring that everyone keeps up with modern trends, especially with how social media has become a major means of earning a living.
I remember a few days ago when I wanted to connect with a friend on X. I asked for her handle, and she said she had not been using her account and no longer remembered her login details. To crown it all, she added that she found X complicated and difficult to use compared to other social media platforms she was familiar with. I was surprised because X is one of the simplest and easiest top social media platforms that people use to make money. You see, if there were education on how these platforms work, how to monetize them, and how to generate good traffic, it would go a long way in helping people. Not just learning how to navigate various channels and apps, but also receiving education on how to create engaging posts and shoot high-quality videos would be highly beneficial.
Now, coming to how social media poses dangers to our mental health and life in general, if it were taught in schools, a lot of the negative content people post to generate traffic would be significantly reduced. What do I mean?
Haven't you ever come across a graphic photo or video that was posted without a prior warning? I have seen this happen a lot, and I have removed, blocked, and deleted many accounts of friends who posted such content. I remember a time I came across a disturbing photo of someone in a coffin, with cotton wool covering the openings while flies buzzed around the corpse as it was already decaying. The person who posted it—a friend, actually—did so just to get likes, without any warning. When I saw the clip, I did not think twice; I immediately removed him from my friend list. Some people really need to do better!
If social media were taught in schools, incidents like this and many others would not be so common because people would be more literate about what to post and how to go about posting such content.
Thanks for reading!

Yeah, I concur
Thank you sir
Integrating social media to the academic curriculum will be like a double edged sword. It have some benefits, and at the same time, it has its down side
I haven't looked at the downside though. That's for sure anyways, what has an advantage must surely have disadvantage by the corner.
Thanks!
Yeah. I agree with you; if social media were being taught in school, there would be certain mistakes that people wouldn't make in the online space. Children should be taught how to navigate social media. I know the knowledge of understanding social media comes naturally to children, but then they should be taught what is acceptable on social media.
Exactly!
Most of the things these people especially the children, post on social media for fun sake are not it at all. Lectures like that would go a long way to help making the space a better one.
Thanks for stopping by
It all depends on how much people take it serious and will post according to instructions
Other ways to make money on social media include, digital marketing and people don't know about this. The most important thing people should learn first about social media is social ethics which many people are lacking.
I also agree that social media should be taught in school so people can know some basic things about digital presence and footprint before opening account.
