My First Visit to Ogun State

One thing I love about traveling is the change of environment and the experience it offers. There is just this different feeling of leaving your location to visit a new place. Everything about my visit to Ogun State felt different from Bauchi starting from the weather, the dressing, and the culture.

Traveling is not really my thing, but with the mentality I grew up with hearing about rocks, I was happy when I got an invite to Ogun State, Nigeria. Growing up, I heard so much about Ogun State, so when I was invited to come and stay a few days, I was convinced it would be memorable.

Though I hated road trips, hearing he's in Ogun State was a trigger, and I wasn't disappointed in the end. I boarded a bus from Bauchi to Ogun State; it was a fast and smooth journey. When we got to the city, I was feeling a different atmosphere; it was as if I were on another planet.

It was until I cited a very large rock that I remembered that it is a city known for its beautiful rocks. I saw lots of people climbing the rock and being happy. I love the beautiful look the city gives. When I finally got to his residence, I noticed a difference. The capital city was far more beautiful than the location I found myself in. I saw an ancient building that left me wondering if houses like this still exist—the muddy walls, brown rusty roof, and thatched roof.

The beauty of this place is its love for historical treasures. It was in this state that I witnessed craft. There was this popular market in that locality where the first set of people that would greet you before walking in are sets of women making different craft works. From what I heard, it is not a tradition that would change because it's part of their culture. Everything was sight-catching, and I couldn't resist getting something I could afford from them.

The experience was unforgettable; though I didn't visit Olumo Rock due to our location, I was still able to enjoy my few days. I visited their streams, and we went on a long walk where we sighted one ancient cave.

Although it is a peaceful environment, it still has some challenges, like what I'm struggling with here in Bauchi, a lack of clean water. They depend solely on boreholes and lack of modern infrastructure. Just a few stays I did, and I was saved by the generator. Power supply is nothing to write home about and the water wasn't friendly on my skin.

Regardless of these shortcomings, Ogun State is still where I would love to visit again. I'm a lover of nature, and being my first time visiting, I know there are places I have not visited. My stay was fun; I was able to taste their local dish even though I didn't eat it. I ended up leaving it for him to consume while I enjoyed my rice and chicken, but I believe my next visit wouldn't be the same. Maybe my second time tasting the dish won't give me the first taste I had that day.
