Beyond Exhaustion: Breaking The Cycle Of Workplace Burnout

in Hive Learners14 hours ago

There is this lady who works at a big company and is in charge of paper works, she would spend all her time in the office typing on the computer, documenting reports to submit daily. At first, it was her dream job since she can be very fast with the job and so there was always progress in her department which she got complimented for.

One day, her husband came to the company and asked that they fire her, why? "She hangs her hands in the air to type while she sleeps every night!" was his reason. It was so funny but the clear thing there was, her job was taking over her mental state and she no longer felt at peace with the job as it kept becoming more tasking for her.

I was told the story in a "workplace hazard" class I attended during a training I signed up for. I was exposed to countless things that are quite safe to do as a job but could over time become hazardous to the health of the workers. This is one of the reasons it's very advisable to have active safety departments in every workplace.

It's not possible to totally avoid burnout moments in a workplace, it's a working place after all but there are things every worker should have in mind to break the cycle of burnout and fight exhaustion until they go home for maximum rest. Too sad that most jobs nowadays tend to drain their workers in hope that it would bring productivity.

One thing I've learnt about humans, we work less effectively when we are tired no matter how hard we try to fight it in cases of meeting deadlines or pleasing bosses. So the earlier one understands that without them a company will continue, the better they will take their health seriously. The body isn't a robot, it needs good time to revitalise.

One of the strategies as I've learned is, taking breaks at intervals of your work. Especially those jobs that require using more strength like carrying stuffs or bending over and over, taking regular breaks might slow down the work but it will be beneficial for the efficiency needed and for your health when you retire or stop working.

Staying hydrated regularly but in little quantity while working is also a way to keep your blood circulation in good condition. A man had a class for over 8 hours to teach, that was hazardous to his health but he kept taking water and walking about until he was done and he made sure to sleep early after eating well, he woke up better.

I can not overemphasize this even if I want to but seriously, if a job is too much for your body system or obviously hazardous to your health, see no need to strategize how to continue working there, trust me, the company will continue earning if anything should happen to you so prioritize your health while you work.

The worst condition could happen because the woman types too much on the computer, indeed at first working it feels very easy because it is her hobby but in the long run this will become a workload that makes her very tired and until her husband begs for her dismissal,

I also feel the same thing in myself, at first working I was very enthusiastic and it was easy for me to complete the work but now it all becomes a burden and fatigue in working

I guess that's the reality of most jobs out there, they don't stay as exciting for us as it was when we first got them.

I’ve actually dreamt about work I had to do and also work I’ve done throughout the day due to how exhausted I was. It does happen but I can’t seem to imagine the level of burnout this lady just have felt to be typing in her sleep.

Breaks are very important in the workplace but someone like me doesn’t like breaks but I’m still working on it.😅

I never worked as an employee but I can guess the workout burnout pretty well. I agree with your tips and both of the tips your shard seems very effective.

Truly, our efficiency reduces drastically when we are tired. Always best to rest and take breaks.
