Who's a volunteer??
A volunteer is someone who offers themselves for a service out of their own free will without wanting any pay in return.
As a young girl, I always admired people who did things for other people without wanting anything in return. I loved how they put smiles on people's faces and give them free stuff that they need, especially the little children. It was something I always wanted to be a part of.

I grew up attending so many church programs and all, and we had a time where they asked people to volunteer for an outreach. I didn't even hesitate to say yes. I was so happy because I had to share in people's joy and also put smiles on their faces. The deal was to go visit an orphanage and give the kids gifts and then play with them. I was about 12yrs old, but I was so happy to put smiles on other kids faces. We were asked to bring things like toys and good shoes and other nice stuff we didn't have any use for and I disturbed my parents to buy a pack of diapers for me which they did and I took with me. ( Don't give out something that's worn out and you can't wear and use to others .)
That was my first time to visit an orphanage and it felt so good to be a part of something that brought a lot of joy and impact to the life of kids. Since that day I told myself that I would have my own organization and volunteer to do things for kids.
I learnt a lot from that day, because going to the orphanage actually opened my eyes that there were kids out there who didn't have anybody to call mum or dad. It made me appreciate my family even more. I also realized that even the littlest of efforts towards another person made a lot of difference, it might be small for you but to the next person, it means a lot.

For years now I've had it in my mind to volunteer for organizations that help kids especially because I love them and that's a great way to make a difference. I asked my friends about it and most of them didn't have any idea, most of the places they suggested were too far and would need lots of cash from my end which I don't have atm.
I searched on IG for some NGO that I could be a part of and most of them were very far away.
Early this year, I saw one and left a friendly comment about how I'd love to volunteer but didn't know how to go about it, and also can't because of distance. Guess what? they responded to my comment and from there we got talking. We exchanged contacts and headed on to make calls about how the organization worked and I was so pleased and glad to be part of them. The organization is a big one and they're not just based in Nigeria but also in the US. Their aim is to eradicate child labour and also make sure every child gets a good education. They believe that children are the leaders of tomorrow, and to make them great leaders, the first step is getting a good educational background. I'm genuinely excited to be a part of this movement that's changing the lives of these children, their families and the society at large.
