One of the punishable offence of the law is Defamation of Character, it's an offence that can't be taking for granted. Defamation of Character is injuring another person's reputations by any slanderous communication, oral or in written form and I believe anyone who engages in this sinful offence must go through thorough legal actions.
In this dispensation, social media has been the tool most people use to speak ill of others all in the name of gaining followers, that's why I don't follow every content creator online because majority of them are bullies who hid under the canopy of making content for fun.
According to my tribe (Yoruba), names are very important and it travels farther than the person bearing it, so you must protect it jealously with everything within your power. Because my tribe believes once your name gets spoiled, to redeem your image will be very difficult cause you never can tell where the slanderous words against you have reached.
So I can say my name is my life and I try my best to protect it anywhere I am, I do not like hate words and I will not take it slightly if anyone whoever it might trys to tarnish my image. But if anyone dares to say any slanderous words against me then the person is in for an unending battle.
I know majority of us in Nigeria will remember the scenario that happened I think early 2024 with a popular Nigeria female gospel singer who revealed her son's face after a year of birth, particularly while he was celebrating his first birthday.
And a slanderous online user tweeted that the son did not resemble her husband at all but called out another man for the paternity and the idiot demanded that the husband must take the child for a DNA test.......see the gut!
The man he called out is an international gospel singer and as well a PASTOR, in no time the news had gone viral and all online users had started making fun of the pastor, the lady and her husband. I loved what the Pastor did, he responded through his lawyer for defamation of character and demanded for the immediate arrest of the person that started the evil tweet.
Everyone thought it was a joke but in no time social media was calm and everyone who had shared the slanderous words started deleting their post to avoid arrest and begging on the guy's behalf.
The idiot who started it, started begging that he was just catching a cruise for traffic on his online page. If not for the intervention of people that matters in the society the guy would have remain in jail for the rest of his life because the Pastor's lawyer didn't want to take it with levity at all......imagine this kind of a thing😭😭
If I have a problem with anyone I try my best to solve it amicably to avoid gossip and hate speeches, that's one of the reasons I love to be in the midst of my immediate family and small circle of friends, I always mind my business to avoid matters that touch the heart.
But there are still some unfortunate human beings that all they know is gossip and hate speeches, if nah my matter dey wan reason then such person(s) should be ready to spend their entire life's savings on legal actions because I won't take it lightly with such person(s).
I've gotten the understanding that names travels farther than the bearer, so I can't joke with anyone that want to tarnish my image whether physically or electronically(online).
I will deal with the person with everything in me that he/she would regret ever been born, I don't know who my helper might be and once my reputation is damage nothing to live for again than to die.
So I can't be calm at all with either physical or online bullies, I will definitely defend myself and such person will pay dearly for it.

Protecting our self is important when one's speech is defamatory or causing us mental stress, seeking an end to it legally sometimes can be the best option.

Such act is very common among the online people, they love to tarnish people's image on in the name of catching a cruise. If am the pastor I will make sure the guy who started the rumours to spend maybe 1 year in the prison before releasing him.
