The Very First Job I Did

in Hive Learnerslast year

Staying idle has never been a thing in my family cause of the kind of parents I have, so how on earth will I dream of becoming a liability when my parents are hard working set of people who are working really hard to take good care of the family. So I've been thinking of how to be financially independent once I'm through with high school, I have in mind of doing a decent job in which I will be respected and not be taken advantage of cause of been young.

So after I graduated from high school in 2010, since I couldn't gain admission immediately to the University of my choice, I opted for a teaching job cause I felt that's the only job I could do that will give me free time to do other things and won't take away my weekends. Though I wasn't new to teaching because as a teacher's daughter, I've spent all my life helping my Mom in one or two things pertaining to classroom work, so I find it so easy to blend with the job. I wrote an application to a primary school which is about five minutes walk from my house and luckily for me I was employed cause it's the beginning of a new academic session.

Therefore, the very first job I ever did was A Teaching Job in a private school in which I tutored Basic 1 pupils.

Working at the school was fun for me because relating with the pupils wasn't difficult at all and it feels good to actually see myself doing something and looking forward to my first pay. My first pay came at the end of the money as rightly agreed and I was overjoyed to have received my first salary. But along the line, the pay was been delayed and I was owed by the school which made me resigned and look for better placement in another private school far away from the previous school, though it's trek able like 15mins walk to my house.

My second working place was much better in which the pay was regular and higher than the previous and the working atmosphere was also friendly. I worked at the school for two and half years before my admission into University came in, so I had to leave the school at the end of the session to further my studies. The school management and staffs appreciated me with lots of gifts and I was moved with tears of how much I was loved. Myself and some of the staffs then are still in touch till today cause of the relationship we had built.

My job experience taught me how to be calm and be cautious of how I address others, not to be judgemental and give regards to people. Because as a tutor, you have to be calm and give regards to your pupils parents or guardians in other for them to reciprocate the respect. I also learnt that when you prove your worth in whatsoever you are doing, you tend to gain others respect irrespective of your age.

Teaching Job has become part and parcel of me since childhood that's why I didn't think twice before grabbing a teaching offer into my State's Teaching Service Commission. So I'm a proud Science Teacher till date in a Government owned Secondary School

Born Teacher
just that some private schools won't allow one enjoy the job.
They may owe salaries for months and keep encouraging you to continue.

That's true, those private schools are dubious set of people that's why I don't take chances with them, once you fucked up with my pay I resign and look for another place. Private is private no entitlement or whatsoever so why owing me?

Some schools management can be heartless, how can someone work under you and you won't pay on time, my brother was in such situation, intact till date they're still owning him salary of about 4 month and he has left the place more than 8 years now.

It's good the job still taught you some valuable lesson.

Nice to hear about your first experience. When I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher, but in the end, I didn't end up going down that path. Working with kids must be something really fulfilling and, of course, a great responsibility!
